Another Life Lyrics
If I can't let you go will darkness divide?
For the fiction of love is the truth of our lies
We were playing for keeps, but we both knew the cost
Now the only way out's in your heart-shaped box
But I hate that it seemed you were never enough
We were broken and bleeding but never gave up
And I hate that I made you the enemy
And I hate that your heart was the casualty
Now I hate that I need you
As we rest here alone like notes on a page
The finest to compose could not play our pain
With a candle through time I can still see your ghost
But I can't close my eyes, for it
For it is there where you haunt me most
Where you haunt me most
I hate that it seemed you were never enough
We were broken and bleeding but never gave up
And I hope that I sing through your memory
As we echo through time in the melody
Now I hate that I need you
And I hear you now when you said "it hurt
But it had to fall, fall apart to work"
As I see you now in what's left of me
Is it too late to plead insanity?
'Cause I hate that It seemed you were never enough
You were broken and bleeding in the name of love
And I hope that we meet in another life
I hope that we meet in another life
I don't hate that I need you
I don't hate that I need you
I don't hate that I need you
For the fiction of love is the truth of our lies
We were playing for keeps, but we both knew the cost
Now the only way out's in your heart-shaped box
We were broken and bleeding but never gave up
And I hate that I made you the enemy
And I hate that your heart was the casualty
Now I hate that I need you
The finest to compose could not play our pain
With a candle through time I can still see your ghost
But I can't close my eyes, for it
For it is there where you haunt me most
Where you haunt me most
We were broken and bleeding but never gave up
And I hope that I sing through your memory
As we echo through time in the melody
Now I hate that I need you
But it had to fall, fall apart to work"
As I see you now in what's left of me
Is it too late to plead insanity?
You were broken and bleeding in the name of love
And I hope that we meet in another life
I hope that we meet in another life
I don't hate that I need you
I don't hate that I need you
I don't hate that I need you

This song seems to be about how the narrator doesn't feel like himself, but even in the darkness, he still thinks of this girl he loved and cares about her very much and he hates that he is isolated from her. He wants to see her in another life because if he does, hopefully he'll be able to make up for the ways he wronged her though he never meant to hurt her
If I can't let you go, will darkness divide? For the fiction of love is the truth of our lies We were playing for keeps but we both knew the cost Now the only way out's in your heart-shaped box {They both realize in this first verse that their relationship is failing, they knew before this point but no ts beyond being saved. And the only way out is “in your heart-shaped box” which to me means that it’s her heart, and he’s tired of hurt her and feeling guilty about it.}
But I hate that it seems you were never enough We were broken and bleeding but never gave up And I hate that I made you the enemy And I hate that your heart was the casualty Now, I hate that I need you {This explains how when fate brings good things it can also bring the negative side of it, He’s mad at himself because he hurt the girl’s feelings unintentionally and feels guilty that “Her heart was the casualty”. He feels guilty about how he wants to get back together with her when he knows that she deserves someone better.}
As we rest here alone like notes on a page The finest to compose could not play our pain With a candle through time, I could still see your ghost But I can't close my eyes, for it For it is there where you haunt me most Where you haunt me most {In this verse, it says “With a candle through time, I could still see your ghost But I can't close my eyes, for it For it is there where you haunt me most” which to me means that he feels like he failed her and feels bad about it. He feels like if he closes his eyes he will lose her forever}
I hate that it seems you were never enough We were broken and bleeding, but never gave up And I hope that I stain through your memory As we echo through time in the melody Now I hate that I need you {He hates how he made her feel. He hopes she remembers him. He hates how he knows that’s shes hurt. From all the things he’s done, he hopes that she still remember the good times. He hates that he wanted her back.}
And I hear you now when you said it hurt But it had to fall, fall apart to work As I see you now in what's left of me Is it too late to plead insanity? {He is finally realizing that she’s hurt and that he loved her more than he thought that she did. He knows she is in pain from what he did. He regrets leaving her. He wishes he could change things. He thinks that they had to break things off in order to fix it.}
'Cause I hate that it seems you were never enough Yeah, we're broken and bleeding in the name of love And I hope that we meet in another life I hope that we meet in another life I don't hate that I need you (I don't hate that I need you) I don't hate that I need you (I don't hate that I need you) I don't hate that I need you {He hates how they had to break it off. He still loves her and wants her to come back. He knows that they are in a rough spot. He wants to see her again. He wants to prove that she enough. He wants to prove he can change.}
the scentances in {____} are my interpretation of that verse
I think this was a excellent interpretation
I think this was a excellent interpretation
The song is talking about a relationship that fell part due to the guy's behaviour ( his insecurities ). It's about how the guy regrets what hes done and how hes feeling now because he let her go. He realises the consequences of his actions.
If I can't let you go will darkness divide? For the fiction of love is the truth of our lies We were playing for keeps, but we both knew the cost Now the only way out's in your heart-shaped box
He talks about how he can't let her go, how their love is basically tragedy, the only way out is her heart.
But I hate that it seemed you were never enough We were broken and bleeding but never gave up And I hate that I made you the enemy And I hate that your heart was the casualty Now I hate that I need you
The girl felt as though she was never enough for him , they were both suffering but they still held on to each other despite the pain.
Due to his pain and depression he made her feel like she was the enemy, he hates it, he also hates how she was the one hurt and how he hurt her. He realises how much he needs her now and he hates it. He loved her more then he realised.
As we rest here alone like notes on a page The finest to compose could not play our pain With a candle through time I can still see your ghost But I can't close my eyes, for it For it is there where you haunt me most Where you haunt me most
he sees them as notes on a page, he is talking about how lonely they are, He is talking about how bad it hurts, its unbearable for him.
He keeps seeing her, he doesn't want to close his eyes and stop her, the memories of her haunt him, he keeps thinking about her basically.
I hate that it seemed you were never enough We were broken and bleeding but never gave up And I hope that I sing through your memory As we echo through time in the melody Now I hate that I need you
He wants her to remember them and he wants to be in her mind as much as she is in his. He wants her to miss him i guess he wants her to remember there relationship forever. He is in pain he hates needing her because it hurts more now she is gone.
And I hear you now when you said "it hurt But it had to fall, fall apart to work" As I see you now in what's left of me Is it too late to plead insanity?
He realises how she felt now, when kept she telling him how much pain she is going through, he talks about how it needed to fall apart for it work - probably because he took her for granted and he realised it when she left and he realised how he felt for her. He sees he is nothing without her. He wants to plead insanity because he was crazy for letting her go.
Cause I hate that It seemed you were never enough You were broken and bleeding in the name of love And I hope that we meet in another life I hope that we meet in another life I don't hate that I need you I don't hate that I need you I don't hate that I need you
he talks about how love took a toll on her and how broken it made her - their love made her broken. He loves her so much, he wants to try again in another life probably because he doesn't feel as though he can redeem himself to her because she won't let him / they got back together and he wants not have caused that pain so he wants to redeem himself in another life
He realises he does actually hate needing her, he perhaps likes it..
Hope that was a good interpretation, you are welcome to disagree
Let me know what u thought about it?
