The Sky Will Turn Lyrics

Doors of many, as of few
Leading inside out, around and through
Past forgotten, now as new
A line dividing false and true
This one and only room

And as trapped as we are, it's the devil we know
The exceptions we make will never be shown
To the rest of the world, what we touch turns to gold
For a moment, we freeze

But if ever there's a full moon breaking
It's painting our faces
We won't know (Won't know)
Which way (Which way)
The sky will turn
We're at the blood eclipse
And we can't look away
It's like a car crash burning
At the edge of the earth

In the rainstorm, soft and grey
Leading inside out and float away
Soon to stop and hope to stay
A light defining night and day
And this is how we pray

And as trapped as we are, it's the devil we know
The exceptions we make will never be shown
To the rest of the world, what we touch turns to gold
For a moment, we freeze

But if ever there's a full moon breaking
It's painting our faces
We won't know (Won't know)
Which way (Which way)
The sky will turn
We're at the blood eclipse
And we can't look away
It's like a car crash burning
At the edge of the earth

If ever there's a full moon breaking
It's painting our faces
We won't know (Won't know)
Which way (Which way)
The sky will turn
We're at the blood eclipse
And we can't look away
It's like a car crash burning
At the edge of the earth

I think this has to do with the fact that nothing is ever quite as it seems. All may appear calm to the naked eye but life is not ever that exact way. Constantly shadows undulate and twist in the background, shifting our faith and our fate in ways we could never ever prepare for.

For me I find that this song explores peoples tendency to hide their flaws. In this social media dominated world all we see in celebrities are these "perfect" people. They will only shows their best traits while hiding their flaws. I know this applies to many people myself included, who are uncomfortable with who they are, and they try to weave a facade they they interpret to be accepted in society.

I found these hints in the lyrics:

"And as trapped as we are, it's the devil we know The exceptions we make will never be shown"

  • We are trapped in our made up image that we try to pass of as who we are. This leads to us shutting in our flaws and weaknesses which eventually boils over as bad habits and often depression.

"To the rest of the world, what we touch turns to gold" -This line represents our tendency to portray a "perfect" version of ourselves who can do no wrong.

"For a moment, we freeze But if ever there's a full moon breaking It's painting our faces"

  • These lines represent the un-sustainability of our "perfect" image, because in life we will always face situations and endeavours that will test our character which is symbolised by the "full moon" that happens rarely but always happens nonetheless.

"We won't know (Won't know) Which way (Which way) The sky will turn"

  • These lines represent the nature of struggles that we face. these situations can either break us or develop us as individuals. in other words these situations will cause our worlds or "sky" to turn for the better or worse.

"We're at the blood eclipse And we can't look away"

  • These lines signifies that one of these situations has arrived that will test our real selves "the sun" and our facade "the moon" when they clash with each other we get an "eclipse". the blood eclipse symbolises that this situation has broken us.

"It's like a car crash burning At the edge of the earth"

  • These lines indicate that this endeavour that we faced has broken our facade and our "perfect" image has been shattered. in this time we are exposed for who we really are. often these times are devastating hence the "car crash" but often the pain is something that we only feel for ourselves hence "at the edge of the world" since it is inconsequential for others and it is something that we must ourselves.

That was simply my take on this song. As a young adult who is still trying to find my place in this world, I really related to this song in my own way.
