My Sanity Lyrics
[Verse 1]
When the world has gone mad
And there's nowhere to roam
The lights are all on
But nobody’s home
There comes a time
When you look up to the sky
And ask why do my favorite songs
Always make me cry?
And am I losing
[Chorus]
My sanity
My sanity?
I've nothing to lose
So please let me be
I've got a firm grip
And strong roots like a tree
Burrowed deep in reality
I won’t let you go
What else can there be?
You're all I have
[Verse 2]
When you swore to be true
Our bed was belief
But alternative facts
Snuck in like a thief
There comes a time
To release the cord of self
And with confidence declare your state of
Perfect mental health
Never doubting
[Chorus]
My sanity
My sanity
I've nothing to lose
So please let me be
My life is a song
A short melody
Harmonizing with reality
I've got it real bad
There's no remedy
You're all I have
My dear sanity
[Bridge]
Sometimes there's no sane reason
For optimism
[Guitar solo]
[Chorus]
Oh, my sanity
My sanity
I've nothing to lose
So please let me be
My life is a song
A short melody
Harmonizing with reality
I’ve got it real bad
There’s no remedy
My world picture is exemplary
I won't let you go
What else can there be?
You’re all I have
My dear sanity
When the world has gone mad
And there's nowhere to roam
The lights are all on
But nobody’s home
There comes a time
When you look up to the sky
And ask why do my favorite songs
Always make me cry?
And am I losing
My sanity

As always, deep in meaning. This song is about the pain in the world today, and there is still no resolution in sight (I've got it real bad There's no remedy). In these times, we look for a optimistic reason that we cannot find, however still come to some insane conclusion (When the world has gone mad And there's nowhere to roam), This is supported by (Sometimes there's no sane reason For optimism) and (But alternative facts Snuck in like a thief) as well. In a modern world with ever increasing troubles, our reasons can be our only motivation.
In our current world filled with our troubles, our reason for everything is our opiate.
I see this as a song about a person who sees the world changing around him and when given opportunities to accept that change, he instead doubles down on his own beliefs that he has always held. This is seen in lyrics like: "I've got a firm grip...burrowed deep in reality." "And with confidence declare your state of perfect mental health." And, "My world picture is exemplary."
One of the more beautiful BR songs with their use of harmonies and certainly a stand-out on 'Age of Unreason.'
The guy feels he's hopelessly crazy because he lives in a world where a reality TV star with no political experience can become president ("Alternative facts" is a phrase Donald Trump used).
