TalkTalk Lyrics

You're waiting (you're waiting ...)
On miracles (on miracles ...)
We're bleeding out (bleeding out ...)

Thoughts (thoughts ...)
And prayers (prayers ...)
Adorable (crisis ...)
Like cake in a crisis (in a crisis ...)
We're bleeding out (bleeding out ...)

While you deliberate
Bodies accumulate

Sit and talk like jesus
Try walkin' like jesus
Sit and talk like jesus
Talk like jesus
Talk talk talk talk
Get the fuck out of my way

Don’t be the problem, be the solution
Don’t be the problem, be the solution
Don’t be the problem, be the solution
Problem, problem, problem, problem

Faith without works is
Talk without works is
Faith without works is
Talk without works is
Faith without works is
Dead, dead, dead, dead

Sit and talk like jesus
Try walkin' like jesus
Sit and talk like jesus
Try walkin' like jesus
Try braving the rain
Try lifting the stone
Try extending a hand
Try walkin' your talk or get the fuck out of my way

Ok, so Eat the Elephant seems to be a beautiful critique to the current society, or of course to expose societal problems... I partially agree with the comment of @Ozziedaveon, however, I do believe the issue is wider. In my opinion, the song is about mass shootings and terroristic attacks happening around the world... and how people in power, celebrities, popes, etc., just send their thoughts and prayers after some terrible thing has happened...

I do believe "While you deliberate Bodies accumulate" targets more someone like a politician... however, it can be anybody in general...

Of course, the final message of the song is instead of sending your "adorable" thoughts and prayers do something about it! Or, or, or how MJK puts it, "Try walkin' your talk or get the fuck out of my way!".

My Interpretation

@Sibuna I agree, But i would suggest that it is even wider. I Think it's not just about Mass shootings or terrorist attacks, but rather all terrible things; Natural Disasters, Famine, War, Death, Outbreaks of disease, Global Warming. It's about acting on these things instead of changing your profile picture on facebook, to go help people in need, or to donate to the causes instead of just sitting and talking about how horrible it is, and sending your "Thoughts and prayers".

@Sibuna People just love acting holier than thou and patting themselves on the back! Especially on social media with a the look at me I'm such a good person bs posts while they literally are just sitting on their asses and not helping anyone except themselves to boost their own ego. It's pathetic! It's basically a song about politicians and even most of society to shut up and let people be free. If your going to complain about a problem then shut your mouth and do something about it. If not then just shut up and get out of my...

I’m pretty sure it’s a commentary on the religious right and their inaction and reluctance to address gun violence. Thoughts and prayers. We’re bleeding out.

@Ozziedave I just listened to it again and had the same thought. Maybe because we're right off the heels of Parkland and the same back-and-forth we always get after high-profile shootings, but the "thoughts and prayers" lines immediately jumped out at me.

@Ozziedave If you know Maynard and his music then you'd definitely know this song doesn't have anything to do with gun control. That's laughable. He's pretty much a libertarian and pro 2nd Amendment. This has been shown throughout many of his lyrics over the years. Plus he was in the military at one point and understands the need for the 2nd Amendment. Even more proof of this if you Google Ballistic magazine and look for several of the articles that he's featured in not to mention he's literally holding AR15's and 50 caliber rifles on the front cover of some...

@Ozziedave I'm pretty sure this whole song is about how screwed up our government is in the US and it's because most of the politicians are fake religious hypocrites that use Jesus as their talking points but then they go about their lives not being anything like Jesus. Politicians don't care about your health care or whether you end up starving, homeless, and bleeding out on the streets. All they care about is money! While they rob all of us of our way of life this country is getting more and more divided and going down the toilet while these...

Faith without works is dead- 14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your[a] works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead. 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”And he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. 25 Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. James 2:14-26

@Thestoryoflife And the angel of the lord came unto me, snatching me up from my place of slumber. And took me on high, and higher still until we moved to the spaces betwixt the air itself. And he brought me into a vast farmlands of our own Midwest. And as we descended, cries of impending doom rose from the soil. One thousand, nay a million voices full of fear. And terror possessed me then

And I begged, "Angel of the Lord, what are these tortured screams?"

And the angel said unto me, "These are the cries of the...

I believe its about a man who clams himself to being Jesus himself. but he is not who he claims to be and saying try talking like Jesus its him saying show me you are truly him and ill shut the fuck up

@joel110783 I believe more than a man here is Church in its entirety. The whole album is targeting BIG: Society, Government, Church, etc.

I would like to think that the song carries a more literal meaning in addressing the frustration of being a true Christian, in contrast with modern accepted norm. Jesus was the end of the law. Of animal sacrifice. & no other law of the Most High, God. We are still to keep God's day holy. The seventh day. Saturday. & That is when we are to hold holy convocation. This is just one example of all the perversions that so many so called Christian churches have adopted from the pagan catholic church, and other heathen sources. Of course, with this being such an unpopular realization, I doubt that APC was taking it there.. In these days when the the thoughts of our hearts are again continually evil. I do not offer an alternate interpretation.

When Jesus comes to judge us, he will do so righteously. & we will be judged on our works. Which is shown by to our adherence to the law of God. We have one job as men. To keep the law of God. Our part in the Covenant. .

Woe be to the pastor that leads his flock astray

@Tim™ I like to think you have absolutely no knowledge of the band nor the singer lol

I think it's about the gun violence that's seems to be on an upswing. The school shootings. The Vegas shootings and all we and all the government does it talk. No action even as the bodies pile up.

@lindsey117 Ummm no. Maynard is 100% pro 2nd amendment and he's a libertarian. Google Maynard and firearms. He's literally been on the front cover of several gun magazines over his career and even recently. Either way I understand why you would think this song is about guns and those attacks. It could be interpreted that way but that's not what he's talking about in the lyrics. It's more about our government and the religious fool in control of it.

It's pretty self explanatory. It's a generalization, not specification.

Cake in a crisis?!

@DJAelbione adorable. like giving someone a cake because their son dies. just an example. Praying and hoping instead of taking action. imagine you have a curable disease and instead of being treated you just pray.

@DJAelbione I imagine this is Maynard\'s take on the response of "let them eat cake" by a French princess when told the plebs had run out of bread.

This is a very straightforward song about how politicians are doing nothing while the problems and bodies accumulate. The song calls this out, demanding from them to stop debating endlessly and finally do as they say. And if they want to talk like a new Jesus (see The Doomed), they’re obliged to back it up with dids.
