I’m pretty sure it’s a commentary on the religious right and their inaction and reluctance to address gun violence. Thoughts and prayers. We’re bleeding out.
@Ozziedave I just listened to it again and had the same thought. Maybe because we're right off the heels of Parkland and the same back-and-forth we always get after high-profile shootings, but the "thoughts and prayers" lines immediately jumped out at me.

@Ozziedave If you know Maynard and his music then you'd definitely know this song doesn't have anything to do with gun control. That's laughable. He's pretty much a libertarian and pro 2nd Amendment. This has been shown throughout many of his lyrics over the years. Plus he was in the military at one point and understands the need for the 2nd Amendment. Even more proof of this if you Google Ballistic magazine and look for several of the articles that he's featured in not to mention he's literally holding AR15's and 50 caliber rifles on the front cover of some...

Either way he's definitely not anywhere close to being a far left or far right. Songs like Hush is pro 1st amendment and not for silencing people like most liberals want in this country. But with that said he's not far right either because he's not some dumb Jesus loving hypocritical moron. If you actually listen to what he says in the podcasts and interviews he has talked on then you'd know he's full libertarian. This song is about the hypocrites in society who act like they're better than others but don't practice what they preach. Specifically people in our government including both left and right political parties. Especially the morons who act holier than thou and use god to defend their points of view. The man is clearly anti-religion with possibly the exception of Buddhism. A lot of his lyrics are inspired by Buddhism but then again most of Buddhism isn't really a religion. It's a philosophy and way of life for most people who truly practice it. Anyways, just wanted to point out this has nothing whatsoever to do with banning guns or gun control.
@Ozziedave I'm pretty sure this whole song is about how screwed up our government is in the US and it's because most of the politicians are fake religious hypocrites that use Jesus as their talking points but then they go about their lives not being anything like Jesus. Politicians don't care about your health care or whether you end up starving, homeless, and bleeding out on the streets. All they care about is money! While they rob all of us of our way of life this country is getting more and more divided and going down the toilet while these...

All these stupid politicians and even most people in society are constantly having arguments about stupid crap that doesn't matter and basically just loving the sound of their own voices. Meanwhile people are losing their jobs, health insurance, houses, and freedoms to do and say whatever the hell they want. Maynard basically just see's this country and the rest of the world as a shathole and hopes a meteor takes us all out! lol It's very pessimistic but I'd have to agree. The world is full of retards and the only thing that's going to solve it is an asteroid!
