Black Rose (feat. Danko Jones) Lyrics
Counting days ’til it’s over, my friends
’Til it’s over, my friends, count along
Counting days ’til it’s over, my friends
‘Til it’s over, my friends, count along
Feeling rich, feeling poor, feeling nothing more
Self destructive on a roller coaster fireball
Cut her tongue, don’t believe a word she says
She’s on a hunt, cooking cooking cooking misery
Left my heart on the shelf for way too long
Sick and tired, picking up from the dirty floor
I saw the line of snakes that came to me
So innocent were the days
The taste of good memories
A bag full of hope that was only for me and you
No more broken dreams
I feel like a loaded gun
Spitting bullets at your armor of mind control
Cut her tongue, don’t believe a word she says
She’s on a hunt, cooking cooking cooking misery
Cannot think, cannot talk, cannot do it right
Can’t call the doctor, he’s as sick as you and I
I saw the line of snakes that came to me
So innocent were the days
The taste of good memories
A bag full of hope that was only for me and you
So innocent were the days
The taste of good memories
A bag full of hope that was only for me and you
Counting days ‘til it’s over, my friends
‘Til it’s over, my friends, count along
Counting days ’til it’s over, my friends
‘Til it’s over, my friends count along
Counting days ‘til it’s over, my friends
’Til it’s over, my friends, count along
Counting days ’til it’s over, my friends
‘Til it’s over that thing called love
So innocent were the days, the taste of good memories
A bag full of hope that was only for me and you
So innocent were the days, the taste of good memories
A bag full of hope that was only for me and you
Please let it grow, where it belongs
There in the dark where the shadows are born
Leave it alone. I’m sure it will find its way
to redeem and blossom
‘Cause I know, the black rose will find its home
’Til it’s over, my friends, count along
Counting days ’til it’s over, my friends
‘Til it’s over, my friends, count along
Self destructive on a roller coaster fireball
Cut her tongue, don’t believe a word she says
She’s on a hunt, cooking cooking cooking misery
Sick and tired, picking up from the dirty floor

Great song. Basically talking about a girl who played with his heart and he's angry with her but hopes one day she stops with the mind games and they can start over. "So innocent were the days, the taste of good memories". Basically they had some good times together and the memories are forever with him. I like this song because i can relate to it with a guy.
This features a couple of verses sung by Canadian vocalist Danko Jones. Volbeat first linked up with Jones when he supported them on their 2013 Spring tour. Guitarist Rob Caggiano told TeamRock: "We were working on this song 'Black Rose', and Michael [Poulsen, Volbeat frontman] was singing the verse part, and he was, like, 'Maybe Danko Jones could sing on this one. It sounds like something that he would do.' And it totally does! We could almost hear it before it even happened. When we approached him about doing it, he was totally psyched, and he completely nailed it."
The song itself delves into themes of emotional turmoil, destructive relationships, and the search for redemption, with its lyrics painting a vivid picture of two individuals who are caught in a cycle of self-destruction and pain, longing for a way out. The black rose itself, which is often associated with uniqueness, mystery, and rebirth, is a symbol that, despite its struggles, represents that there is the possibility of finding its place of redemption and growth. With the right care, it can grow; Left alone and it can potentially blossom.
Good song
Honestly, this song is amazing. One of my favourites. I heard it live and that was one of the single best experiences of my life.
I don't have too much input with the meaning of the song, however. I think (emphasis on think) it's mainly about pursuing through manipulation and toxicity in a relationship in the hopes that the person will recognise the errors of their ways and return to how they once were. The final verses of the song talk about their relationship (the rose) only being able to thrive amongst the toxicity of the speaker's partner's behaviour(the dark).
I used this song for a project in high school where you had to make a soundtrack for Romeo & Juliet, and made the female figure mentioned in this song to be not Juliet, but the hostility and conflict between their families and how their relationship would never have been publicly accepted should they have announced it before their demise. I thought it applied and gave good insight. I don't really know.
Just here to compliment the song and give my own loose interpretation.
