Hearts/Wires Lyrics
Nothing can save me now
Is what I believe
The slit in the sky when you left
Is all I see
Nothing to sing about
I've bared all my leaves
No vision or dreams about you came true for me
Cut through this razor wire
And dine on your heart
You're mine 'till the end
Stuck with illusion now
I drown in your sea
I hope that you first save yourself
And then come for me
Cut through this razor wire
And dine on your heart
Mine 'till the end
Break through clip the wires
And writhe in your heart
Mine 'till the end
A way
A way out
A way down deep into your veins
All the way
All the way
Down deep in your heart
All the way
All the way
A way
Cut through (a way out)
This razor wire (a way)
Mind 'till the end
Break through (a way)
Clip the wire (a way out)
Dine on your heart
Mine 'till the end
Is what I believe
The slit in the sky when you left
Is all I see
I've bared all my leaves
No vision or dreams about you came true for me
And dine on your heart
You're mine 'till the end
I drown in your sea
I hope that you first save yourself
And then come for me
And dine on your heart
Mine 'till the end
Break through clip the wires
And writhe in your heart
Mine 'till the end
A way out
A way down deep into your veins
All the way
All the way
Down deep in your heart
All the way
All the way
A way
This razor wire (a way)
Mind 'till the end
Break through (a way)
Clip the wire (a way out)
Dine on your heart
Mine 'till the end

If I were to pick it apart in a more literal sense by my own speculation, I'd say he is distraught and in pain because he can't connect with someone or they're dead. They also could be an addict taken under by the drug and the only way they can connect again is to break through the razor wire (pain) and collect the wire (connection to him). To writhe is to be uncomfortable or contorted. There is much pain in breaking through an addiction but if you writhe to the end, you can finally connect to your loved ones.

To me this song is about after someone you love dies, turning to drugs (needles) to deal with pain and make it go away. Perhaps this person who died was themselves a drug addict so you feel you need to recreate the atmosphere that they themselves were once immersed in order to feel closer to them (endure their same life of drugs and strife). In a sense, you end up likely killing yourself in order to be able to come to terms with the loss. Furthermore, the pain of losing them can only be resolved by you in some way causing your own self pain.
It seems like this song is about the death of a loved one and feeling hopeless about it.
Hearts and Wires(hypodermic needles/medical monitoring equipment). Someone dies, they collect the wires. Someone uses drugs, they collect the wires.
It's about waves of the same situation.
The slit in the sky when you left, is all I see.
Someone died, it's all he can think about. Also, a heroin user will nod off, only look up at the sky, unable to move but look thru slits in their eyes.
Also, someone in a coma, can't really move, but stares up at the sky thru slits of their eyes.
The song is layered with these stages all thru it.
Ultimately, he needs a way out, and shoves that needle down deep into his veins, all the way.
The drug says you're mine till the end.
It's dark and I think it continues with (L)MIRL, where they make the choice to kill themselves.
Look guys, I'm not tryin ta be rude, but wtf!!! The song is CLEARLY about Chi!!! One love Chi. And to whom ever thinks the lyrics have been changed, Your wrong, Chino has a thick California surfer boy accent, so the draw in his voice can sound like something else is being said. The only time I've heard Chino changing the lyrics to his songs, is in their early days and he we become to intoxicated to even walk much less remember his own lyrics..lol
I forget if it was Stef or Chino who said this, but I read that it was inspired by the movie The Silence of the Lamb. Like a Wild Bull character
@shinyditto12 The guitarist initially had an issue with a song called "Hearts/Wires," which somehow inspired uncomfortable images in him of murder, rape, insanity and the killer from Silence of the Lambs. "That song made me think of Wild Bill the whole time – psycho killer and shit. I just didn't feel it," Carpenter says. "I had to embrace my inner psycho rapist and come up with the part and get into it."

This song is not about Silence of the Lambs - all you had to do was look up the quote.

@dchester I didn't say it was about it, i said it was inspired.by it. I just had trouble remembering the exact thing is all

Another hit from Deftones hands down! Doesnt it sound a little Cantrell-ish in the intro? I'm sure Jerry played this part too, Tho they only mention him on Phantom Bride.
I think it's about losing God and feeling helpless.
I do not think these are the correct lyrics. Correcting them lends a whole new interpretation, which for me has to do with the pain of finding someone you know who would be your soulmate but the love is unrequited/unreturned. The person of interest has been hurt too much, has wrapped their heart in razor wire metaphorically. He wants to release her from this (find a way, a way out), and (metaphorically we hope) consume her heart and do some writhing about.
Here is what I believe they are:
Nothing can save me now It's what I believe The slit in the sky when you left Is all I see
Nothing to sing about I've bared all my leaves No vision OR dreams about you Came true for me
Cut through This razor wire And DINE on your heart MINE 'till the end
Stuck with illusion now I drown in your sea I hope that you first save yourself And then come for me
Cut through This razor wire And DINE on your heart Mine til the end
Break through CLIP the wires And writhe in your heart MINE til the end
Away, A WAY OUT, away Down deep into your veins All the way All the way Down deep in your heart All the way All the way, A WAY
Cut through (A WAY OUT) This razor wire (A WAY) Mine 'till the end Break through (A WAY) CLIP the wires (A WAY OUT) DINE on your heart MINE til the end
This song reminds me of my mother’s passing. She was diagnosed with cancer 3 years ago. In 2016 it took her. I listen to this and I am reminded of how I felt helpless and hopeless. The slit in the sky is her leaving this earth. No vision or dreams coming true is what I wanted for her. To live. The wires were the IVs in her arms. Nothing can save me now is how I felt. She always protected me, always saved me. This song means more now than when I first heard it. It’s my mom’s song. I cry whenever I hear it. I think this song is about loss. Finding a away to cope with that loss. Maybe I’m wrong but that’s what I get out of it. May someone else gets it too.
