Circadian Rhythm (Last Dance)

Brian has already explained the meaning behind the song but I wanted to say that my first interpretation was that of a long-distance relationship. Can definitely relate to both, though 4 years on for me and it still hurts.

"Cicadian Rhythm is actually a song i wrote the music for but Nikki wrote the lyrics to. It's really an homage to a friend of her's that passed away recently. First time Nikki wrote most of the lyrics. We knew we were going to do this duet together, and i really knew she really had something going on that needed to come out and I am happy this is a vessel for it and it came out great, i'm really happy with it. It's one of those little nuggets of a song that we didnt expet too much of when it was this little thing that we really enjoyed, and it ended up taking on a new life. It's exciting when that happens, as a band member you are so involved in it, you cant see it for what it is and that's one of those times where it was beyond you and you can look at it like other people look at it and it was really lovely." I feel the song is about a persons love for someone and they are trying to get close to them through sleeping and the circadian rhythm

The song, as stated, was written by Nikki Monninger in reference to a friend who died. The opening lines seem to refer to someone who died, as the speaker is spending "Another night alone" and some ghost-like figure, "out of reach," came in through his window "sleepwalking" (i.e. entered via the speaker's dreams; the speaker dreamt about someone who died during a lonely night)

On that note, I think the song is an entreaty to live in the moment, here and now. Forget all you have to do ("there's nowhere left to go"), and forget all that you want to do ("I've got nowhere left to dream"). And just pay attention to people who are around you here and now, "stay awake" and "stay with me." That means you should forget all your duties, plans, and wishes and live in the here and now, since all that is here and now won't be around forever.
