Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
All the pretty girls like Samuel
Oh, he really doesn't share
Although it's more than he can handle
Life is anything but fair, life is anything but fair
Oh oh, oh oh ooh
Oh oh, oh oh
Just as soon as they turn older
He'll come and sweep them off their feet
It's only making me feel smaller
All the hidden love beneath
So won't you lay me, won't you lay me down
Won't you lay me, won't you lay me down
Won't you lay me, won't you lay me down
You lay me, won't you lay me down
All alone, alone again
No one lends a helping hand
I have waited, I have waited
Takes it's toll, my foolish pride
How long before I see the light
I have waited, I have waited
For you to lay me down
Sail on by, sail on by for now
They play naked in the water
You know it's hard, heaven knows I've tried
But it just keeps getting harder
So won't you lay me, won't you lay me down
Won't you lay me, won't you lay me down
Won't you lay me, won't you lay me down
Won't you lay me, won't you lay
Oh, won't you lay me, oh won't you lay me down
Won't you lay me, oh won't you lay me down
Oh, won't you lay me, won't you lay me down
Won't you lay me down
Oh, I'll wait, I'll wait, I'll wait, I'll wait for you
Yeah, I'll wait, I'll wait, I'll wait, I'll wait for you
Oh, I'll wait, I'll wait, I'll wait, I'll wait for you
Oh, I'll wait, I'll wait, I'll wait, I'll wait for you
For you to lay me, won't you let me down
Oh, he really doesn't share
Although it's more than he can handle

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
This song screams misogyny. I don't know if they're being tongue-in-cheek or not, but I hope so.
@cutewhensedated I think it is more of a song for guys who have been the "nice guys finish last" guys. Like being friendzoned by a girl you love while she is in love with the stereotypical douche bag who treats are bad. I related to it and think it is a great song.
@cutewhensedated The song isn't misogynistic! The narrator is alone and possibly dealing with the pains of unrequited love ("It's only making me feel smaller
All the hidden love beneath") or he at least yearns to be loved. This is juxtaposed by the promiscuous Samuel character and his string of female admirers. I'm not convinced Samuel's character is necessarily misogynistic either, just promiscuous, but even if he were the song kind of critiques him so that would make the song a condemnation on misogyny anyway. Its not tongue in cheek and its not misogyny, this song is just a lot deeper than you're giving it credit
@cutewhensedated what makes you think Samuel is promiscuous? He's cute and the girls love him. Very typical of young girls. I don't see anything making him a douche bag. I think both of you guys are throwing in your own jealousy or resentment towards the guy all the girls like. Perhaps it brings up pain and resentment from your youth.
@Peach143g I never anything about Samuel being promiscuous, a douchebag or any other thing and it certainly doesn't bring up any pain or resentment from my youth. It just seems misogynistic to talk about how it's not fair that all the pretty girls like Samuel and he won't share them, even though he has more than he can handle - girls aren't objects to be passed to someone else because the person they're interested in has more than his fair share of women.
It's kind of gross, to be honest.
@cutewhensedated @cutewhensedated OMG dear. The song reflects a feeling, not a criticism. You're assigning PC to feelings here. It's clear to the speaker that there is nothing wrong with all the pretty girls and Samuel, but he just wish to be admired like him for once, to be with even one of them girls. Not as in rape, but in a mutual will. He speaks about his will to fulfill real love; he has been waiting for a long time now for anyone that will share his passion.
@cutewhensedated You nailed it. It's surprising how few people see this, but it really does scream misogyny.
@Lyrael Thank you! I liked the song a lot and was a bit grossed out when I read the lyrics. Also, @Broksan, if you think you're being "friend zoned" because you're a nice guy, then you're not a nice guy. Women have the right to choose to be with whomever they choose to be with, regardless of what you think of their choice in men. It's not your right to decide they should be with you because you're "in love" with them. If you really loved someone you'd know that love isn't about possession.
@cutewhensedated I agree with @wisefool981and @moonSt0n3. It was written the way it was and is a beautiful song. How you read into it only spins your perspective on the world around you. I fear for my two sons as they get older in this country where ppl are too caught up on PC BS and can't say what they want or let there feelings out b/c of ppl who try to label something in a negative light b/c they interrupted it so. FFS.
@cutewhensedated The Karens come out of the woodwork for this song. lol
@cutewhensedated The Karens come out of the woodwork for this song. lol \r\nApparently, a guy can\'t sing about unrequited love without being misogynistic (which most people who say, don\'t actually understand the meaning of).
@cutewhensedated this is my ex’s favourite song and he is an entitled misogynist. So you’re correct.
