White Noise Lyrics
It's hard to be what you need through a static screen.
Been trying to speak for weeks and weeks.
Open my mouth,
All that comes out is white noise and incomprehensible sounds,
And all you ever do is turn me down.
I'm watching.
I'm waiting.
I'm aching.
Suffocating.
I'm breathing.
I'm speaking.
Can you hear me?
I'm screaming for you.
Day by day,
I'm slowly replaced in your picture frames.
A brand new face on your pillowcase.
Come the night you dim the lights and close the blinds,
But I still see them running down your spine,
Cause I illuminate the room,
Just enough to watch you.
I'm watching.
I'm waiting.
I'm aching.
Suffocating.
I'm breathing.
I'm speaking.
Can you hear me?
I'm screaming for you.
Sick of the lack of signal.
Sick of the lack of touch.
Sick of the static voice.
It's not enough, it's not enough.
Baby it's hard to be just what you need when all I speak is static screams.
Can you hear me?
I'm watching.
I'm waiting.
I'm aching.
Suffocating.
I'm breathing.
I'm speaking.
Can you hear me?

For me, this song is about loving someone who is depressed and you can't reach them. The second verse sounds a little more like they've broken up and the one being written about is moving on, and the person talking is a stalker (which is creepy), but I don't think that's what the songs is about. Honestly, the person who is singing may be depressed, too, or something. I just know I've been in relationships where I can't reach the person. Feel like I'm watching, waiting, aching. Just wanting to help them but you can't reach them, they can't hear you, they're not opening up. This part makes me feel this way especially:
Sick of the lack of signal Sick of the lack of touch Sick of the static voice It's not enough, it's not enough Baby it's hard to be, just what you need When all I speak is static screams
Even if I'm wrong, it's a beautiful, haunting song.
this song mirrors the mourning of a passing and the individual that passed in that one person mourning still feels the passed persons presence lurking around.
it may also be calling out a ghost thats giving her a lot of paranormal drama and just wants it to come out and show itself. even in heaven to do that yes but there are rules as to when its ok for the ghost to show itself without defying their lord they reside in.
This song can be interpreted in many different ways, but what striked me the most was the use of haunting metaphors, which gave me the sense that the song is about feeling like a ghost. By this example, she is describing the feelings of despair, feeling ignored, feeling misunderstood. If this is the case, the song really has a meaning of depression or anxiety. Depression and anxiety are often compared to feeling haunted, which could be why the use of these metaphors were majorly placed as the key symbolism of these lyrics. The lines that stood out to me the most were “open my mouth, all that comes out, is white noise and imcomprehensible sounds, and all you ever do, is turn me down”. This details a sense of misery, like nobody hears you or understands you. She then goes onto describing how a ghost feels, or how she feels inside of her mind in the chorus; “I’m watching, I’m waiting, I’m aching, suffocating. I’m breathing, I’m speaking. Can you hear me?”
These lines are just some examples of what stood out to me as a ghostly metaphor for depression or despair.
@Songanalyser, this is usually where i argue that antidepressants never work because by that your suppressing real emotions. and i stick by it.
