Little do you know
How I'm breaking while you fall asleep
Little do you know
I'm still haunted by the memories
Little do you know
I'm trying to pick myself up piece by piece
Little do you know
I need a little more time
Underneath it all I'm held captive by the hole inside
I've been holding back
For the fear that you might change your mind
I'm ready to forgive you, but forgetting is a harder fight
Little do you know
I need a little more time

I'll wait, I'll wait
I love you like you've never felt the pain, I'll wait
I promise, you don't have to be afraid, I'll wait
Love is here, and here to stay
So lay your head on me
Little do you know
I know you're hurt while I'm sound asleep
Little do you know
All my mistakes are slowly drowning me
Little do you know
I'm trying to make it better piece by piece
Little do you know
I, I love you 'til the sun dies

I'll wait, just wait
I love you like I've never felt the pain, just wait
I love you like I've never been afraid, just wait
Our love is here, and here to stay
So lay your head on me

I'll wait (I'll wait), I'll wait (I'll wait)
I love you like you've never felt the pain, I'll wait (I'll wait)
I promise you don't have to be afraid, I'll wait
Love is here, and here to stay
So lay your head on me
Lay your head on me
So lay your head on me
'Cause little do you know
I love you 'til the sun dies

    My Interpretation

This song really captured what I was looking for as I had written a song with the same meaning behind by using "it's not like you ever knew" but "little do you know" the phrase captures the meaning so simply and effective. I was going through a hard time and really wanted a song that expressed my feelings as in this song but I couldn't find any until I stumbled upon this!

For me, the lyrics mean like this:

"Little do you know" This phrase repeats itself multiple times in this song, it's like they want the other person to know how they are feeling but they are afraid or they don't know how to put it across. Yet, they feel that the other doesn't know the feelings one is experiencing and don't want these feelings to be getting in the way of their relationship.

"How I'm breaking while you fall asleep" Because Sierra doesn't want to strain the relationship further, she waits until Alex is asleep before breaking down and succumbing to her true feelings because of whatever that is causing those feelings while she puts up a front when Alex is awake

"I'm still haunted by the memories" Sierra still has that image, that memory that imprints in her mind, that is constantly recurring and taunting her, causing her to be scared of it. It's almost as if the memory doesn't want her to forget it and keeps popping out to haunt her.

"I'm trying to pick myself up piece by piece" She's trying to regain her old self, trying to put everything back together in order to slowly try and move on and lead a normal life. She desperately wants to be her usual self but with the emotional scars within her that is stopping her recovery every single time. It's like building a brick wall but every time it's almost done, it crumbles back down again.

"I need a little more time" She is still not ready for Alex and needs more time to recover and regain herself. Or it could also mean that she needs more time to let whatever incident sink in as she is still in shock.

"Underneath it all I'm held captive by the hole inside" Sierra puts on a strong facade on the outside, pretending that everything is going well, going smooth and that she's happy but the truth is that she is tied down by her emotions that are causing her to be like a prisoner, submitting to the negative thoughts that are sucking her in deeper into depression. It's almost like she's unable to escape.

"I've been holding back for the fear that you might change your mind" She is afraid of rejection, afraid that Alex will revert back to the old ways or his mistake despite saying that he wouldn't. It shows the insecurity and the inability to trust Alex after what he has done. She's will hold back her affections until she is 100% sure that Alex will not revert.

"I'm ready to forgive you but forgetting is a harder fight" She is able to let what has been done slide past but forgetting about the incident is near impossible and difficult with the emotional trauma faced. Forgiving is easy, but forgetting is harder as it becomes an experience, a memory stuck in your brain.

"I'll wait, just wait I'll love you like you've never felt the pain, I'll wait I'll love you like you've never been afraid, I'll wait" Alex then comes in saying that he will and still loves Sierra like the old times. He promises to erase the pain and make her forget the pain that he caused her even though it will take a long time for her to forget. He will assure her that he will not revert and rebuild their relationship so their trust will be restored and she can trust him once again.

"The love is here and here to stay so lay your head on me" He's saying that the love between the two of them is ever present and will always be there no matter what. He believes that the love between them is strong enough to heal all the wounds and asks Sierra to lay her trust and faith in him, showing that he will not let her down anymore.

"I know you're hurting while I'm sound asleep" Alex knows about the brave front Sierra puts on and how she breaks down whenever he sleeps in order not to hurt his feelings. He knows that Sierra is going through so much because of him.

"All my mistakes are slowly drowning me" The guilt from the mistakes he made is overwhelming him and he starts blaming himself for what he has done. Not only his regret from his actions but he also feels guilty for hurting Sierra and making her go through such emotions that it's hurting him as well, overwhelmed and unable to breathe properly.

"I'm trying to make it better piece by piece" He is trying to salvage the situation, relationship and the trust between them as he knows he is the cause of this mess (as mentioned earlier) and he is trying to improve it and make amends bit by bit. Trust is a sensitive issue and he knows he cannot rush such a thing, but only time will be able to make it better.

"I love you till the sun dies" His love for Sierra is never ending and forever, and with the Sun not due to die anytime, his love for Sierra is so big that it transcends time, generations and even eras.

The rest of the song is basically just a repeat with the two of them singing together and showing that the both of them are tentatively but surely trying to repair their relationship together in order to make it work.

I relate to this song really well as I was going through a really hard time and the lyrics of the song matched every single feeling I was going through, every single situation I had gone through and it was just as if like this song was about me. But then my story didn't have an "Alex" coming back to me, so mine isn't that complete yet. This is a really great song, really relatable. I hope my interpretation helps :)

This song sort of relates to me. Here's my story. My little brother was hit by a car when he was 7 while riding his bike, less than a year ago. And I was their to witness it all. He was in critical condition. He was in the ICU for 4 days. And in the hospital for 8 torturous days. I felt so alone those days. My mom would stay in the hospital and I would be at my friends house for most of those days, because my dad couldn't get out of work. Now thank god, less than a year even, he is 100% better. Although that memory of him being thrown by the car still haunts me. That "Little do you know" is me to my brother, because although he acts like it never happened, it still affects me. "I'm still haunted by the memories" Those memories, I like to call them tests. Those tests would end up distracting me from my school work. In the middle of classes, I would burst into tears, because those memories still haunt me. "little do you know, I'm trying to pick myself, piece by piece" This is me for almost the past year. I've been trying to pick up myself from the pieces that those memories have left me in. If anyone's reading this, I just want you to know that you should never lose hope. I never lost hope for my brother, and now he's sitting by me right now. Stay strong x

    My Own Interpretation

First of Foremost , there comes a time in your life , when you know something , what you know you can't explain but you feel it , you felt it every moment but there is something wrong and you don't know what it is but it's there like a splinter driving you mad , it's that feeling that has brought you to this point . Anyone can stand any kind of torture except hope.

Why love is intensified by absence ? How it feels ? .Normal . You know like nothing , like your attraction wandered for a moment , and suddenly the book you're reading is gone , your coffee is gone , the room is gone . You realise you do get together just a while just a little time and that's okay because it is better to be happy for a little while , just brief time even if you know you are going to lose it , than to be just "okay" for your whole life and for what is worth this advice , it's always later than you think and this is the only time you ever get . What you don't understand when someone so bright comes into your life is that something else comes with them "Absence" , their absence like a shadow on your days . There are very few things in this world more harmful than the lies of a decent person . The bad thing about having unrealistic expectations is having to admit them on your own but the good thing about embracing realistic expectations is that you find yourself more forgiving of other people's faults and it allows the smallest gesture to blow you away. Have you ever fallen for someone you know was totally wrong for you ? The scariest question of all is that do you love that person more than he/she truly love you , if you seek to know this answer you better be ready to hear it because it's a lie that can't be uncrossed . They say when two people love each other no problem is insurmountable , of course l do agree with the notion but at the same time l do wonder if that is even true at all ? You don't know how to be near the person without being near that person , should you give the person some space , You want to tell the person that you do adore him/her but if you try to pull that person towards you that time you gonna end up pushing that person even further away so l guess the best option at the mean time time would be to just let things be and hope they will turn out the way they are supposed to . I guess l believe what's gonna happen is gonna happen whether you do like or not , You just leave it to fate

    I m done

I see this song about romantic loss and wanting them back and distance even if it’s only emotional distance.............

This used to be my interpretation Then a year ago my step mum died and my sister signs this song about her she was only six then so it meant a lot and hits me hard with lyrics of “haunted by the memories “ Trying to pick my self up bit by bit it just makes me think of my sister hart broken Also she is the best singer ever she is now seven and amazing and it’s not just me as her sister I will upload her cover onto YouTube x

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
