Eyes to the Wind Lyrics
I was sailin' down here on the wind
When I met you and I fell away again
Like a train in reverse down a dark road
Carrying the whole load
Just rattling the whole way home
Have you fixed your eyes to the wind?
Will you let it pull you in again on the way back in?
I’m a bit run down here at the moment
Let me think about it, babe
Let me hold you
There’s a cold wind blowing down my old road
Down the backstreets where the pines grow
As the river splits the undertows
But I’d be lying to myself if I said I didn’t mind
Leave it hanging on the line, lost inside my heads
Is this the way I’ll be denied, again?
So I'll set my eyes to the wind
But it won’t be easy to leave it all again
Just a bit rundown here on the sea
There's just a stranger living in me
As you set your eyes to the wind
And you see me pull away again
Haven't lost it on a friend
I'm just bit run down here at the moment
Yeah, I'm all alone here, living in darkness
When I met you and I fell away again
Like a train in reverse down a dark road
Carrying the whole load
Just rattling the whole way home
Have you fixed your eyes to the wind?
Will you let it pull you in again on the way back in?
I’m a bit run down here at the moment
Let me think about it, babe
Let me hold you
Down the backstreets where the pines grow
As the river splits the undertows
But I’d be lying to myself if I said I didn’t mind
Leave it hanging on the line, lost inside my heads
Is this the way I’ll be denied, again?
So I'll set my eyes to the wind
But it won’t be easy to leave it all again
Just a bit rundown here on the sea
There's just a stranger living in me
And you see me pull away again
Haven't lost it on a friend
I'm just bit run down here at the moment
Yeah, I'm all alone here, living in darkness

He was sailing with the wind, going with it, with the moment, retrieving time and making sense of a past love. Then he met her, and fell, and like a train in reverse down a dark road, he was pulled again into the same feeling, living the same things he wanted to surpass; he is going in reverse, as if he had to go down the same walked path. Carrying the whole load: carrying his old love again without being able to overcome it. Set your eyes to the wind stands for looking forward, where the wind pushes you to, moves you to, moving forward. Certainly he is not feeling like being pull back in again, he needs to think about it, but he wants to be close to her, and hold her. The second paragraph stands for the memory of his old love: the old road. “But I’d be lying to myself if I said I didn’t mind, leave it hanging on the line, lost inside my heads” means he still thinking about his old love, he hasn’t being able to make his whole mind about it, he still misses her, but just like a memoire. There would be a stranger living in him if he would just denied the existence of his thoughts, of his feeling towards his old love. “But it wont be easy to live it all again”, he has done it before, live everything for the one he loved, and wont be easy to do the same again; however denial is not the right solution. He is pulling back, living in his thoughts again, but not saying goodbye, he just need some time. The motion of the wind will cure him, slowly.
@twigimadox Very nice. Loved this.

My interpretation of this song is someone who is struggling with their personal demons, possibly dealing with depression (maybe even some kind of addiction) and trying to move forward with their life and at the same time contemplating a new relationship.
This struggle leaves him without energy to put in a new relationship but still wants to be close to her "Let me think about it babe,Let me hold ya". He struggles with his personal demons from his past "There’s a cold wind blowing down my old road". He wants to move forward with his life but knows it won’t be easy to escape his troubled mind.
“There’s just a stranger living in me” references a depression causing him to not feel like himself. He gives a disclaimer, “And you see me pull away again”, that if he gives a new relationship a try and pulls away it’s because of what he is struggling with. He then expresses how he feels in the end of all this "alone here living in darkness"
A really great song!
I can't believe this one has no comment yet.
I think this song is about the narrator realizing he has little control on the way his life turns out. My interpretation is probably simplistic (I'm not a native english speaker, I probably missed a lot of things in this song), but I'm pretty that dashed hopes are one of the themes.
Anyway, it's a great, epic song.
I sort of think this is about someone who just got out of a relationship and he's too hesitant to fall in love again or just to move forward in life, instead he decides to live in the darkness. And he's beginning to realize that he's not the same person he was before and he's a little scared.
This is train of thought, great song.
