Agape Lyrics
Agape, please don't dissipate
Yeah I know that I have got this all wrong
I'm reaching out, to touch your voice
But baby, I am clutching at straws
Even though your words hurt the most,
I still wanna hear them everyday
And you say let it go but I can't let it go
I wanna believe every word that you say
For I'm so scared of losing you
And I don't know what I can do about it, about it
So tell me how long love before you go
And leave me here on my own, I know it
I don't wanna know who I am without you
Agape, please don't dissipate
Yeah I know that I have got this all wrong
I'm reaching out, to touch you now
But baby, I am clutching at straws
For I'm so scared of losing you
And I don't know what I can do about it, about it
So tell me how long love before you go
And leave me here on my own, I know it
I don't wanna know who I am without you
I don't want to know
I don't want to know
I don't want to know
For I'm so scared of losing you
And I don't know what I can do about it, about it
So tell me how long love before you go
And leave me here on my own

Feels like a guy who's so insecure, and dysfunctional with this (or all) relationships, he's convinced it's doomed. A self fulfilling prophecy he feels unable to avoid. I relate to this song in this way.
I feel like this is a song about the writer sinking into a situation where he (the song writer) is slowly losing all control and not being able to help his friend who seems to be going through some delmma and he just can't help his friend at all (Really like the title agape / basicly it means brotherly love )
Feels to me like a typical love song where the singer has been dumped.
Agape, while meaning brotherly love, can just be about love and in this case of a girlfriend (could be boyfriend it is 2015...)
He doesn't want this love to die, he knows he messed up and that her words now hurt him, but its all he wants to hear. He is totally heartbroken.
The rest of the song kinda repeats this sentiment "how can i go on without you" "i'm scared" "tell me how to get over this"
Thankfully i've never had my heart broken, but i'm pretty sure this accurately portrays the emotions.
@AndersB Be glad you've not had your heart broken. Its not nice, and these songs make me so emotional. I want to listen but it gets harder and harder.

Agape is not just love in the general sense. There are 3 words in classical Greek that are interpreted as love. Agape is the highest level and refers to the love God has for his people or people for God. It also includes higher concepts such as the love of truth or wisdom. Patriotism and love of country may also be included in the term agape.
I think the song is really about that quest for meaning, for truth and understanding. If it was about love for lost romance or something the term agape would not have been used. Losing sight of purpose in our lives is much more devastating than losing a spouse or lover. That's what this song is saying, that the higher truths, meaning, purpose are the things we cannot lose.
The song writer clearly knows the difference between agape, philos and amor, in my mind there's no doubt. Their understanding of classical philosophy and mythology is evidenced in so many of their songs. Look at a song like Elysium to see a vivid example of that.
@dave109226 ' Agape’ is a Greek word which originally meant simply: love. The Christian faith’s connotations of the word aren’t and were never really my focus. For me Agape came to have its own meaning in my head. Love is a word that is used so frequently for things big and small and it can have such huge meaning but also so little meaning at the same time. Something about the word ‘Agape’ gave a new impetus to the word love. For me it really got across that sense of openness I was looking for. In writing the song I was...

Something about the word ‘Agape’ gave a new impetus to the word love. For me it really got across that sense of openness I was looking for. In writing the song I was hoping to reach some sort of level of openness with my loved ones and myself and the word kinda became a mini philosophy for me in the process of writing the EP and in life outside of the EP". – Andrew Davie (Bear’s Den)
