We Don't Belong Here

i believe it talks about how people feel they are out of place, and how they feel alone. <- summary. i love bvb they have taught me a lot.

I personally believe this song discusses how corrupted churches are nowadays. A lot of preachers teach us to hate others that are not like us. For example, like how you see a ton of religious protesters spreading hate unto the homosexuals; discriminating them, telling them that they're going to go to Hell, telling them that they are sin, etc. When Andy was writing this song, I believe he was going by this.

"The gates of heaven were long shut The pits of hell they were all filled up and I fear I don't belong here"

This verse is saying that the gates of heaven have been shut for a very long time, since people can be cruel and corrupt. Since people can be cruel and corrupt, in which a lot of them are, Andy believes that a lot of them can go to Hell for this. But since there's still a lot of these people spreading their hatred unto those who don't deserve it, to Andy, it seems as if there's no more room in Hell for these people, which would explain why they are still on this Earth. Andy then mentions that he fears that he doesn't belong to this land that has been conquered by these people.

"They might call me a sinner I walk and blink through the fire It hurts, disappear You don't belong here"

Andy here is explaining that a lot of these religious people call other people names, such as sinners, because they go against that church they praise in. He then explains how he walks through the crowd of people that harass him for having different beliefs than them, and it really hurts to have a large crowd of people harass you over something that shouldn't even matter. He then tells us that these people don't belong on this Earth, he believes that all these people belong in Hell.

"Can you hear the march of the rejects? Another parade of the defects Can I hear? We don't belong here"

We are told here that there's an army of people that have been harassed by these religious people marching towards them, probably to start a riot with them and fight for what's right.

So all-in-all, I believe that this song talks about how corrupted the churches are, since they teach people not to love, but to hate others that go against their beliefs, even though their beliefs are false. Then we are harassed by them by going against their beliefs, even though we may not be doing anything wrong. Just like people that protest at pride parades, they are corrupted by their false beliefs and are giving hate to those who don't deserve it.
