Even Robots Need Blankets Lyrics

It happens every time
If it counts I’ll lose my courage when I need it the most
Then it comes crawling up after
Begs me to ask her what I already know

Singing “Oh, love get me out of the cold”
If I promise that I take you there with me
Would you go, I found
In one step I’ll get closer to heaven than you’ll ever know
You may never know

Feeling out again
Go and try to be your man when there’s a gun to your head
After you’ve found out your good enough wasn’t good enough for everyone else

Singing “Oh, love get me out of the cold”
Hold me right by the fire and I’ll show you what home means now
The words came with a new kind of sadness
They meant everything, you mean everything to me

I’ll take the first train out of this town
With a glare in my eye and my pockets full, ready to die
And when I get hazy I will think just maybe you’re out there somewhere

Singing “Oh, love get me out of the cold”
If I promise that I take you there with me
Would you go, I found
In one step I’ll get closer to heaven than you’ll ever know
You may never know

Singing “Oh, love get me out of the cold”
Hold me right by the fire and I’ll show you what home means now
The words came with a new kind of sadness
They meant everything, you mean everything to me

Mayday Parade has so many good songs with great lyrics, that i tend to forget about the lyrics, but this song shouldn't be passed by. The whole song has a very melancholy feel, the first line says the most about the song "It happens every time If it counts I’ll lose my courage when I need it the most Then it comes crawling up after Begs me to ask her what I already know" saying that, when he needs it the most, he looses his courage when he try's to do or say what he needs to, to whoever it may be, but then his courage comes back and leads him to ask her what he already knows. To me, it just talks about the frustrations of trying to 'fix' problems with our significant others, and how we can never quite say what we need to when we want to. and how we ask questions we already know the answer to, but we ask them anyways because we don't want to face the truth... maybe giving ourselves the benefit of the doubt. the song makes me picture a man, whom i can relate to, who is struggling with love, and who may have just had a bad break up, and is just trying to re-find his place in the world now that he has lost his friend, his life may feel like it's rushing around him, and that the people do nothing but judge him. "Go and try to be your man when there’s a gun to your head After you’ve found out your good enough wasn’t good enough for everyone else"

most of the meaning is hard to put into words, you kind of just have to take it as you will.

My Interpretation

I feel like what he's trying to say is that he already knows this relationship is over, yet he's still asking questions that he already knows the answer to. Such as asking if she would take him back, "get me out of the cold".

I also think that when he says "If I promise that I take you there with me Would you go, I found In one step I’ll get closer to heaven than you’ll ever know You may never know" He is trying to fulfill her dreams still, take her to the places she wants to see etc. He thinks it's Heaven just to ask her this question, even if she says no, he at least gets to talk to her.

"Feeling out again Go and try to be your man when there’s a gun to your head After you’ve found out your good enough wasn’t good enough for everyone else" In this part he is expressing how hard it is to be a man when you don't feel good enough for anyone.

"I’ll take the first train out of this town With a glare in my eye and my pockets full, ready to die And when I get hazy I will think just maybe you’re out there somewhere" He's ready to go see her, although he feels like she'll shoot him down & not give him another chance. Yet it feels good to go somewhere knowing she's out there.

"Singing “Oh, love get me out of the cold” Hold me right by the fire and I’ll show you what home means now The words came with a new kind of sadness They meant everything, you mean everything to me" In this last part he is explaining that she is home now, & it makes him sad because she's not there, maybe he realized it too late.

Just my opinion. I love the lyrics to the song though.

My Opinion

I think this song is about suicide. His girlfriend/wife is either dead or left him and he wants to die. The first line "It happens every time If it counts I'll lose my courage when I need it the most" means that whenever he's about to kill himself he backs out, or loses his courage. The chorus could mean two things in this scenario: he wants to be dead so he can be with his girlfriend and she can "take him out of the cold" of being without her, or if she is alive, he wants her to find him and take him back before he dies. "In one step I'll get closer to heaven than you'll ever know" is him actually trying to kill himself, whether it be the last step of his plan, or stepping off a tall building or bridge. "I'll take the first train out of this town with a glare in my eyes and my pockets full, ready to die and when I get hazy I will think just maybe you're out there somewhere" This is about him leaving town to commit suicide. I think the line "my pockets full" indicates he will step off a bridge with his pockets full of rocks or something heavy so he will drown, or he could have his pockets full of things that are important to him, such as photos or things from the relationship. If he gets hazy and wants to back out again, he is saying to remind himself that maybe she's waiting for him in Heaven, or it could mean the opposite if she is alive and he is second guessing himself because she's still out there and maybe he can be with her again. This is just my take on it, I could be totally wrong. I love this song, and Mayday Parade! This is one of my favorite songs by them.
