Mayday Parade has so many good songs with great lyrics, that i tend to forget about the lyrics, but this song shouldn't be passed by.
The whole song has a very melancholy feel, the first line says the most about the song
"It happens every time
If it counts I’ll lose my courage when I need it the most
Then it comes crawling up after
Begs me to ask her what I already know"
saying that, when he needs it the most, he looses his courage when he try's to do or say what he needs to, to whoever it may be, but then his courage comes back and leads him to ask her what he already knows. To me, it just talks about the frustrations of trying to 'fix' problems with our significant others, and how we can never quite say what we need to when we want to. and how we ask questions we already know the answer to, but we ask them anyways because we don't want to face the truth... maybe giving ourselves the benefit of the doubt.
the song makes me picture a man, whom i can relate to, who is struggling with love, and who may have just had a bad break up, and is just trying to re-find his place in the world now that he has lost his friend, his life may feel like it's rushing around him, and that the people do nothing but judge him.
"Go and try to be your man when there’s a gun to your head
After you’ve found out your good enough wasn’t good enough for everyone else"
most of the meaning is hard to put into words, you kind of just have to take it as you will.
