Girls/Girls/Boys Lyrics

I don't wanna hear you've got a boyfriend
Sometimes, you're better off alone
But if you change your mind, you know where I am
Yeah if you change your mind, you know where to find me
'Cause I don't ever wanna be your boyfriend

And never did I think that I
Would be caught in the way you got me
Push another girl aside, and just give in

Girls love girls and boys
(sophisticated, manipulated)
Girls love girls and boys
(sophisticated, no-one can read it)
And never did I think that I
Would be caught in the way you got me
But girls love girls and boys
And love is not a choice

Pose, you've gotta save your reputation
They're close to finding out about your girlfriend
But if you change your mind, you know where I am
Yeah if you change your mind, you know where to find me
'Cause I don't wanna save your reputation

And never did I think that I
Would be caught in the way you caught me
Push another girl aside, and just give in

Girls love girls and boys
(sophisticated, manipulated)
Girls love girls and boys
(sophisticated, no-one can read it)
And never did I think that I
Would be caught in the way you got me
But girls love girls and boys
And love is not a choice...

I am just a villain vying for attention from a girl
A girl who can't decide and here's the reason why

Girls love girls and boys
(sophisticated, manipulated)
Girls love girls and boys
(sophisticated, no-one can read it)
Girls love girls and boys
(sophisticated, manipulated)
Girls love girls and boys
(sophisticated, no-one can read it)
Never did I think that I
Would be caught in the way you got me
But girls love girls and boys
And love is not a choice.

This is a stretch, but after listening to the song a couple of times, this is what I decided:

The narrator Brendon's singing for is a lesbian and the love interest is a semi-closeted polyamorous bisexual girl.

The narrator has decided that she won't date bisexuals, mostly because she believes you can only be monosexual. So she's met this girl that she's really into but she learns that this girl has a boyfriend. She's upset, but she can't let go of her attraction so she keeps trying to get close to the girl ("But if you change your mind, you know where I am"). Her decision to keep pursuing this isn’t what she usually does with bisexual girls thus: "And never did I think that I/Would be caught in the way you caught me. “

The "push another girl aside..." line here I think serves to prep us for the next stanza by being to both the narrator and the love interest. The narrator will learn the love interest is polyamorous and has a girlfriend in the next stanza. This, too, is outside of her dating comfort zone, but she’s willing to be in this kind of relationship if the love interest will give up other girls. On the other hand, the narrator is also trying to talk herself into being completely okay dating this girl even if she's bisexual rather than another lesbian so she’s telling herself to push other girls aside as well.

With that in mind, I feel like the chorus is the narrator trying to come to terms with her feelings and with bisexuality (and to a lesser extent polyamory) as a valid option.

In the second verse, I think the narrator learns not only does the love interest have two partners, but she’s also keeping her girlfriend a secret from most people probably to not be viewed as “the slutty bi girl” ("Pose, you've gotta save your reputation/They're close to finding out about your girlfriend"). It also might be that it’s at the request of the girlfriend who’s not fully out which makes the narrator’s line: "I don't wanna save your reputation" a declaration of one reason she would be a better girlfriend than the love interest’s current one.

The two lines before the chorus basically solidify my interpretation. The narrator feels like a villain for "betraying" her fellow lesbians and wanting a bisexual girl (AKA "a girl who can't decide"). I think the not being able to decide also applies to the idea of polyamory and not choosing one partner over the other.

I know it's probably not what the band intended, but I think it's an interesting alternative perspective to consider.

My Interpretation

You know, this is probably the most realistic (however highly unlikely of the artist to mean) interpretation of this song, in my opinion. Nice interpretation.

I like how your interpretation of the lyric "But if you change your mind, you know where I am" differs from what others have said.

@spacegirl92 I can't help but disagree with you. There is contextual evidence that clashes with this interpretation, namely "I don't wanna be your boyfriend" (why would a lesbian say that) also I think a threesome type situation is implied I don't see any real evidence supporting any polyamouris relationship or anything saying that she has a boyfriend. While certainly interesting and creative it clashes too much with the lyrical evidence

I think that this song is definitely about a girl having trouble with her sexuality.

In the first verse, I feel like the narrator is saying how he doesn't believe her attempt to cover up her sexuality (I don't wanna hear you've got a boyfriend) but once she's sure of herself, he'd be open to something (Yeah if you change your mind, you know where to find me).

In the bridge, he talks about how he didn't expect to fall for someone like her (perhaps someone bisexual) and how in order to hide herself, she'd ignore girls coming onto her (Push another girl aside, and just give in).

The chorus obviously discusses how girls can love girls and boy and how they can't choose.

The next verse bring up a secret relationship and how she doesn't want people to think of her differently because of her sexuality (Pose, you've gotta save your reputation / They're close to finding out about your girlfriend) then the bridge and chorus are the same.

The next part talks about how the narrator feels like he's just another guy pining for a girl but the girl is bisexual so she can't "decide" between the genders (I am just a villain vying for attention from a girl / A girl who can't decide and here's the reason why)

I know that people are concerned about the "can't decide" lyric, but I actually interpreted this differently. I don't think Brendon's perpetuating the stereotype that bi girls can't "choose" a gender to like (if he were, why would he say "love is not a choice"?). Rather, I think he's turning it on its head.

If you look at all those lyrics together, it goes "I am just a villain vying for attention from a girl, a girl who can't decide and here's the reason why: Girls love girls and boys."

I see this as him saying that this girl can't choose between him and her girlfriend - that she loves both of them, because she's bisexual. Instead of him saying "you need to decide whether you like girls or guys," he's saying, "you know you like girls and guys and that's why it's so hard to decide whether you want to be with me or her." Maybe I'm wrong, but when you put all the lyrics together, it makes sense.

My Interpretation

So here's my interpretation.

I don't wanna hear you've got a boyfriend Sometimes, you're better off alone But if you change your mind, you know where I am Yeah if you change your mind, you know where to find me 'Cause I don't ever wanna be your boyfriend

He is saying he doesn't want to hear the girl covering up her sexuality/relationship with a girl by saying she has a boyfriend. It seems like he feels that she is trying to use him as the cover, which is why it says "I don't ever wanna be your boyfriend", or "boyfriend". He's saying sometimes she's better off figuring her problems out on her own, not involving someone else in them. But if she changes her mind, and decides she truly wants to be with him, then she knows where to find him.

And never did I think that I Would be caught in the way you got me Push another girl aside, and just give in

He is saying he never thought he would fall for a bisexual girl, especially one who has caught him in such a trap. He is trapped because he loves her, but he doesn't want to be used as a cover for her sexuality. So he wants her to push her girlfriend aside for him.

The chorus is obvious: this woman loves both girls and boys. And then he goes on to say, "and love is not a choice" meaning no matter what he does, if this girl is in love with another girl, there's nothing he can do about it.

Pose, you've gotta save your reputation They're close to finding out about your girlfriend But if you change your mind, you know where I am Yeah if you change your mind, you know where to find me But I don't wanna save your reputation

In the second verse, he talks about how people are catching on to her having a relationship with another girl. but he's not going to be her cover, he's not going to save her reputation. She knows where to find him if she decides she truly loves him.

I am just a villain vying for attention from a girl A girl who can't decide and here's the reason why

This phrase is interesting because he uses the word "villain". maybe he is a villain in her eyes because he's not going to be her cover. He is a "villain" but really he's just fighting for her true love and attention. He's competing for a girl who can't decide if she loves him or her.

But love is not a choice.

My Interpretation

I'm kinda leaning towards the thought that Brandon is that guy that likes the girl who happens to be bisexual and with another girl at the time and doesn't want to be "out" yet. The whole song SEEMS to be the guy's attempt to get with the girl so others will not find out but he's also accepting that LOVE IS NOT A CHOICE!!! So he can't MAKE her, but she knows where to find him in case she doesn't want to come out.

My Interpretation

or even that she pretends to be with a guy to find society's norm...

My Interpretation

This song is obviously about how Brendon kidnapped two girls and a small boy. IF you fake ass fans who decide to support this kidnapper ever watched the news or any of his interviews, you would know that at brendons LA stop on his tour, three children snuck backstage, anhd to punicsh them, he kidnapped them, took their souls, and hid them in the tour bus's toilet. This song is about how the children's dead bodies fought within the bowl, hence "push another girl aside" that is young kritsy pushing cindey so that she had enough space to gasp. "you know where to find me" is ajoke, targeted at the losing of the children, because nobody knew where to find them. after brayden kidnappoed them if you still support a raspist asnd kiddpanper like this bUNE IN HELL

My Interpretation

Okay, so this is a bit of a stretch I suppose... but I've had an experience like this so yeah... My interpretation was that this was about a guy who thinks he's super smooth, one of those that thinks "pshh... I'm the cure for lesbianism"

It seems like the guy is trying to brainwash her, saying that everyone will judge her if they find out who she really is, who she really loves... Kind of like "oh come here... lets take the lesbian right out of you" Like I said, it's a stretch, but I think it fits

My Interpretation
Cover art for Girls/Girls/Boys lyrics by Panic! at the Disco

My thoughts on this song are that he fell in love with a bisexual girl, but she has a girlfriend. He doesn't mind that she likes girls, but wants her for himself. He's telling her that people are going to find out about her and her secret girlfriend, and if she doesn't want to be put down she should come to him. He's also saying that she loves him, but just doesn't know what to do because she loves her girlfriend.

"I am just a villain vying for attention from a girl." He realizes that she doesn't know what to do, and that it's wrong of him to pretty much make her choose, but at the same time he doesn't because he loves her so much. He's trying to tempt her in other parts of the song, so she'll want to come to him. This girl probably does realize that she likes girls AND boys, but she's having a hard time choosing who she wants to be with more.

Does anyone know what they're singing in the background, or if they're even singing anything at all? Weird question, I know. But it drives me crazy.

The first word is "sophisticated" but I can't figure out the last bit.

I think it's "sophisticated, manipulated"

I think you're right! It's kind of mumbled but it seems like they did that on purpose maybe? Adds depth if it is that, though.

I think "a girl who can't decide" means that she can't decide whether or not she wants to damage her reputation by being with who she really wants to be with, another girl.
