Look me in the eye, say that again
Take me to your chest and let me in
Give me mouth to mouth and make amends
Knock me off my feet like heroin

No need to disguise or to pretend
Don't misconstrue and don't misapprehend
There's nothing left, no fortress to defend
And tonight's the night that we begin the end

You and I kept looking to transcend
The fact that I was breaking to your bend
But this is now but sadly that was then
And tonight's the night that we begin the end

Now I tried, God knows I tried
But there's nothing you can do to change my mind
I tried, God knows I tried
But there's nothing you can do to change my mind

And I don't enjoy to watch you crumble
I don't enjoy to watch you cry
But make no mistake
Make no mistake

Look me in the eye, say that again
Blame me for the sorry state you're in
It's not my fault that you can't comprehend
That tonight's the night that we begin the end

Now I tried, God knows I tried
But there's nothing you can do to change my mind
Now I tried, God knows I tried
But there's nothing you can do to change my mind

And I don't enjoy to watch you crumble
I don't enjoy to watch you cry
And I don't enjoy to watch you crumble
I don't enjoy to watch you cry
But make no mistake
Make no mistake

Look me in the eye, say that again

This is such a beautiful, emotional song. I can relate to it with my last relationship.

The first paragraph is about how something is lost, that started the relationship... when they first met, he is almost saying the feeling that he got was like heroin... He feels disconnected and is wishing that the passion was still there, so that they could repair what became broken.

"No need to disguise or to pretend" This line makes me think that the person is pretending that there is nothing left for them to save in the relationship, which is stated in, "There is nothing left, no fortress to defend." This reminds me of my ex because after we had a baby together, I got so tired of his drinking issues that I left him. I was very hurt and didn't want to but I didn't see anything changing... It reminds me of what he says to me now, that there's nothing left to save....

Which goes into, "You and I kept looking to transcend, The fact that I kept breaking to your bend, this is now and sadly that was then..." Reminds me of both of us had expectations of one another in the relationship. We cared about eachother deeply, but we weren't getting what we needed out of it, so we both tried to change each other. He wanted me to be flexible with his decisions to drink and do drugs, and I knew that it caused chaos and betrayal... The fact that I kept breaking to your bend reminds me of how much I put up with, how much I forgave him for, and what I was willing to put up with in order to maintain our relationship...

He claims that he tried, to stop fighting... not admitting that a lot of it was his fault... so in essence, we both tried, God knows we tried...

Basically, it is the end result of a failing relationship. Two people who may care about eachother deeply, one of them has an addiction problem... possibly heroin, or drugs, and the other is trying to change and sober up... and instead of falling together, they fall apart... one of them is sad knowing it's for the best, the other is stuck in anger and full of pride...

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
