Gonna open my heart, out of the scars and listen up
Gonna do what I'm told, though I'm told and listen up
Take a shot in the rain, one for the pain and listen up
I traveled the way

Wait for me, wait for me
Oh, it's all better now, it's all better now
Wait for me, wait for me

Gonna soften the blow, soften the blow and give it up
I saw the surprise, the look in your eyes, I gave it up
Gonna be who I am, be who I am, and give it up
I traveled the way

Wait for me, wait for me
It's all better now, it's all better now
Wait for me, wait for me
Oh, it's all better now, it's all better now
Wait for me, wait for me
Oh, it's all better now, it's all better now
Wait for me, wait for me

It's all better now, it's all better now
Wait for me, wait for me
Oh, it's all better now, it's all better now
Wait for me, wait for me
Oh, it's all better now, it's all better now
Wait for me, wait for me
Oh, it's all better now, it's all better now
Wait for me, wait for me

    My Interpretation

I immediately thought about Caleb and his battle with alcohol. I was so sad when they cancelled their last tour after he walked off stage at a show. For me, this is a message to the fans and more personally, his wife Lily Aldridge. He realized he had a problem, and did what he had to do to get better. A lot of people said negative things about him after and I think this song is him saying,"I fucked up, but I'm trying to get better. Don't give up on me." I may be reading too much into it, but that's just what I get out of it :) I cried when I first heard this song, so much passion and he pours his soul into it.

    Lyrics from the CD booklet:

Cut open my heart right at the scar and loosen up Gonna do what I'm told go where I'm told and loosen up Take a shot in the rain one for the pain and loosen up I tried all the way

Wait for me, wait for me It's all better now, it's all better now Wait for me, wait for me

Going to soften the blow soften the blow and give it up I saw the surprise the look in your eyes I gave it up Gonna be who I am be who I am and give it up I tried all the way

To me this song sounds like a guy is trying to deal with a problem he's been avoiding by drowning it in alcohol. Maybe he's been dealing with depression/anxiety/stress by drinking. He admits he used to take a "shot" for the pain, but he's promising that he'll take people's advice and be sober. He asks for patience; it takes a long time to earn back the trust of your loved-ones who are hurt the most by your alcoholism.

Anyone else think Caleb sneaks in a few "Pray for Me"s in there? Maybe I'm just hearing things...

Think the first line should be "gonna open my heart, right at the scar." (possibly "right at the start")

    Great song! Again, flawless vocal!

Anyone else think that the beginning of this song is the best. The intro is amazing and the lyrics are so hauntingly beautiful . I think the song is about this person who is desperately trying to change his bad habits. He tried to do it his way but it didn't work , now he is going to listen up and do what he is told , he is asking his lover (can't be a friend, no one tells their friends to "wait" for them) and its all going to get better because they are getting the help they need.

I think there is an important part that some reviewers are overlooking. When he says, "I saw the surprise, the look in your eyes...Gonna be who I am, be who I am", I think that these lines hint more at the woman he is also to wait for him glaring at him in disapproval for the lifestyle he is leading. Yeah, I understand that there are some credible sources that says he wrote it about a personal experience of someone dealing with alcoholism, but, I think that the central problem is that he is behaving in a manner that is not really himself. The woman who he perhaps love and who also loves him knows the real him and that is not this bad-boy that he is showing himself to be to other people. She sees the real him and he knows that she will not settle for him as he was being someone other than himself. He knows the only way he can be with her is to shed this image he has taken on as this popular bad-boy who drinks and doesn't give a darn about anything other than the booze and fast lifestyle he is leading. In order to do that he wants to he who he really is which is maybe more like her. He is asking her to wait for him while he matures and becomes the man she knows he really is.

Personally for me I think this song is about a Man who loves a woman and is going to change himself for her. Maybe he has been doing something in the past which she did not like and now he is going to change for her. And he's asking her to wait for him, until he changes.

    My Opinion

I love this band! Caleb's voice is superb. Just pure musical genius all around. I think this song is about someone who finally decided to ditch their persona, bad habit, or feelings of distrust for someone that's been waiting for them to come around. I can't wait to hear the full album in September <3

Great song and I agree with everyone here about the alcoholism. As an recovering alcoholic myself, these lyrics make all the sense in the world. I lost a very beautiful girlfriend because of my drinking, and to this day I keep asking her to just "wait for me". She's seen me sober before and for me it was just a matter of finding myself again. Beautiful lyrics.....

Like a lot of the other comments are saying, I think this mainly about voyeurism. If the song was about his girlfriend, then why would he use the word spy. If you are a spy it means you shouldn't be caught, that is kind of the whole point, and if you are a voyeur, the whole point of the pleasure you get from it, is the fact that the other people don't know you are watching them. See a bit of a connection there?

This song is def a twin to "Unfair" (a song she has been quoted as saying is about falling in love with someone who is already in a relationship) so it is presumably about the same person. Given the references to buying an apartment and not being able to see her love interest "after tonight," it's most likely that she's moving away and she'll "wait a day to break the bad news" (i.e. notifying him that she's leaving once she's already gone). And, of course, the fact that she sees in him a fellow "idealist" and "dreamer" (terms commonly given to people with the INFP personality on the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)) portends that she'll always be left wondering if they would've been perfect together.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
