Yeah, I understand that there are some credible sources that says he wrote it about a personal experience of someone dealing with alcoholism, but, I think that the central problem is that he is behaving in a manner that is not really himself. The woman who he perhaps love and who also loves him knows the real him and that is not this bad-boy that he is showing himself to be to other people. She sees the real him and he knows that she will not settle for him as he was being someone other than himself.
