Blue skies, can they save me?
God knows if they will.
I'm lazy, am I broken?
My world is standing still.
And I miss it so much, it's
Actually starting to hurt.
Second chances are ideal,
I don't care how much they burn.
Oh, oh
Before I go,
Want you to know,
Never really good for me,
Memories are haunting me,
Never really got no sleep,
And I try and I try,
But I just can't let go.
I walk down to the river,
So I can rest my soul.
And I'm getting good at running, but it's getting
So damn old.
So I try to face the truth,
Cause maybe it might set me free.
But I can't find it even though it
Sees right through me.
Before I go,
Want you to know,
Never really good for me,
Memories are haunting me,
Never really got no sleep,
And I try and I try,
But I just can't let go.
I won't give up, I won't give in.
I will not drown, I will relive
This in peace, sweet sweet peace.
Oh, peace, just come to me.
Oh oh, oh oh,
Oh oh, oh oh...
I won't give up, I won't give in.
I will not drown, I will relive
This in peace, sweet sweet peace.
Oh, peace, just come to me.
Before I go,
Want you to know
Never really good for me,
Memories are haunting me,
Never really got no sleep,
And I try and I try,
But I just can't
Before I go,
Want you to know
Never really good for me,
Memories are haunting me,
Never really got no sleep,
And I try and I try,
And I try and I try,
And I try and I try,
But I just can't let go.

Ministry
Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
