Fuck You Lyrics
Everybody needs a slogan in their pocket or two
It never hurts to have a strategy you can go to
Sometimes I have no sense at all
As most flawed men are wont to do
Just say fuck you
Pavlovian rude
A menace too
Pay homage to
Your bad attitude
You can even get cerebral if you want to
Make a radical assessment that sticks like glue
Sometimes it takes no thought at all
The easiest thing to do
Is say fuck you
Pavlovian rude
A menace too
Pay homage to
Your bad attitude
The reaction it brings, just one of those things
Your friends might not want you around
If the impulse is right you might get in a fight
Even though you can't hold your ground
But all rest assured, sometimes just a word
Is the most satisfying sound
Sometimes it makes no sense at all
The easiest thing to do
Is say fuck you
Pavlovian rude
A menace too
Pay homage to your bad attitude
Just say fuck you
What you gonna do to your attitude
Just say fuck you
It never hurts to have a strategy you can go to
As most flawed men are wont to do
Pavlovian rude
A menace too
Pay homage to
Your bad attitude
Make a radical assessment that sticks like glue
The easiest thing to do
Pavlovian rude
A menace too
Pay homage to
Your bad attitude
Your friends might not want you around
If the impulse is right you might get in a fight
Even though you can't hold your ground
But all rest assured, sometimes just a word
Is the most satisfying sound
The easiest thing to do
Pavlovian rude
A menace too
Pay homage to your bad attitude
Just say fuck you
What you gonna do to your attitude
Just say fuck you

The song is criticizing the lazy and hostile opposition many people (including punks) have about things they don't like. Instead of starting a meaningful discussion on an issue or doing something to fix it, they just say "fuck you" and go on about their day. They don't even really think about it, in that they're Pavlovian and simply recite those words whenever they hear something they don't like. It's kind of funny because a lot of punk bands that I love use this "fuck you" approach a lot.
"It's really a song about the Pavlovian response we all have in how, when you do just come out with it and say it, you usually end up in more trouble than had you not said it. It's very rarely a well thought out action. In the sense that we're analyzing human nature, it's kind of in keeping with Bad Religion."
