Almost thought we made it home,
But we don't know this place at all,
That's enough now dry your tears
It's been a long eleven years
Fire, fire fire!
Fire from the tongues of liars,
You're ashamed of where you're from,
Crying 'cause your father's drunk
We can't die because we're young
At least that's what we heard in a song
Fire, fire fire!
Fire from the tongues of liars,
Fire, fire fire!
Fire from the tongues of liars
You're ashamed of what you've done,
Crying 'cause your father's wrong
Trying to be something new,
You'll feel that you had something to prove
What you confuse for glorious fire
This fire from the tongues of liars,
What you confuse for glorious fire
Is fire from the tongues of liars
This fire from the tongues of liars
(Fire, fire)
Fire from the tongues of liars
(Fire, fire)
Fire from the tongues of liars
Fire, fire fire!
Fire from the tongues of liars,
Fire, fire fire!
Fire from the tongues of liars)
You're afraid of who you are
Crying 'cause your father's done
Clinging to your youthful truth
You'll find that you've nothing to lose
You'll find that you've nothing to prove
But we don't know this place at all,

My first impression of this song was about fathers who refuse to take up responsibilities and how it affects their children... I know its a bit obvious since all she says is Crying cause your father's gone or drunk or wrong, but still it reminded me a lot of myself... You tend to want to believe that everything will be normal (What you confuse for glory's fire) but what you believe to be normal tends to be false (is fire from the tongues of liars)... The kids tend to want to be completely opposite of their fathers (trying to be something new, you'll feel you have something to prove). That's just my opinion.
Also, it's not Clinging to your youthful truth... It's either Dreaming til you hit the truth or Grieving til you hit the truth.
Give the acoustic version of the song a listen, Clinging to your youthful truth is the correct lyric.

When I first heard this song I thought of the war going on over seas. It's been 11 years since the 9/11 attack. And the "fire from the tongues of liars" could be refering to the lies the presidents have been telling and thngs they are hiding.
What you confuse for glory's fire Is fire from the tongues of liars
In my opinion Lacey is aware and condemning the sweeping craze of false manifestations through the church. So many people getting "slain" or "drunk" on the "glory" are either being led by mass hyposis, peer pressure to fit in, or actual demonic powers.
I honestly believe this song was about the tragedy that happened in 2001 which was 11 years ago ... and when she said " Fire From The Tongues Of Liars " I kinda figured she was referring to the secrets the presidents and higher authority (Illuminati) kept from us to know because ignorance is bliss ......but the thing about this song that throws me ALL OFF is when she said things about crying cause your father's drunk , wrong or gone . flyleaf is so complex which makes me LOVE them dearly .
Maybe its not that cryptic and is actually about her father or a fahter in the story in general?

I agree with you that it could be about 9/11. After listening to the song a lot, cause I was also confused about the father part, I realized that maybe it's about Bush and his father? I'm sure a lot of the presidents were drunk a lot. "You're ashamed of what you've done" could be refering to sending the troops out in the first place. "Crying cause your father's wrong" could be maybe stuff his dad did when he was president..I'm not sure about that one. "Trying to be something new, You feel that you had something prove" maybe he...

"Trying to be something new, You feel that you had something prove" maybe he felt he needed to prove to people that he could be a good president and not live in his dads shadow. "You're afraid of who you are, crying cause your fathers gone, clining to your youthful truth, you'll find that you've nothing to lose, you'll fund that you've nothing to prove" maybe is saying he realizes his mistakes in the end...maybe he sees that he is just like his dad and even though his dads not president anymore he is still making choices he believes his dad would make. I dunno, that's just what I got out of it after listening to it.
The whole song reminds me of the bible verses James 3:5-6 I love Flyleaf for this reason; they usually write songs based off of a verse, and write a story around that.
Always amusing when an atheist quotes or references the bible. WoW. Now that's manipulative. Do you also quote scripture as you f*ck young kids with your receding hairline and fake personality.

Oh, I'm sorry. Was that not kind enough 'cause we know you're deserving of respect. Correct.

Why Are You So UPSET?
Why Are You So UPSET?
I think the father in this song is the father of her country (the president) and the song is called "Fire Fire" because one fire means is passion and the other means weapons fire. "Fire from the tongues of liars" is lying about the glory in war.
I think everyone is thinking way too deep into this. I don't think it's about politics or the church. I think it's about what the words say: an alcoholic/deadbeat father, and the struggles of the child. I don't know why everything has to be a huge metaphor.
She just happened to release this song 11 years after 9/11??

I think the first verse of the song automatically makes it seem like it has to do with politics. The moment I heard this song I thought of politics..or at least Presidents.

He may have pulled some troops to make it look like the war is dying down..but I know people who are gettng sent out to Afghan more frequently than normal. So people may think "Oh, people aren't getting sent out" when, in reality, just the same people are getting sent out. "Fire from the tongues of liars" has to do with ALL the presidents...and their lies they have created to make them look good.
To me this song is about people that have a voice because of fame or have a large amount of support by people somehow. Despite them having authority when they speak, and despite them being listened to, they are not really true people and what they say doesn't represent truth. They have "fire" in their tongues cuz they have a voice that can impact but since what they say isn't true they have "tongues of liars" idk not completely sure on this song meaning - just my take on this song
This song is about all the false preachings and powerhungry people that make you question your faith. Most people don't understand the religion they practice, and tend to get mixed up with right and wrong. The repeated line "crying cause your father's..." is referring to God, and the fact that people are confused at or angry with him when really, something else is causing certain issues in your life. That's just my opinion...
And among all the parts of the body, the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself.
