All your twisted thoughts free flow
To everlasting memories
Show soul
Kiss the stars with me
And dread the wait for
Stupid calls returning to us to life
We say to those who are in love
It can't be true 'cause we're too young
I know that's true because so long I was
So in love with you
So I thought

A year goes by
And I can't talk about it

On my knees
Dim lighted room
Thoughts free flow try to consume myself in this
I'm not faithless
Just paranoid of getting lost or that I might lose
Ignorance is bliss cherish it
Pretty neighborhoods you learn to much to hold
Believe it not
And fight the tears
With pretty smiles and lies about the times

A year goes by
And I can't talk about it
The times weren't right
And I couldn't talk about it

Romance says goodnight
Close your eyes and I'll close mine
Remember you, remember me
Hurt the first, the last between
Slowly romance says good night
Close your eyes and I'll close mine
Remember you, remember me
Hurt the first, the last, between

And I'm praying that we will see
Something there in between
Then and there that exceeds all we can dream
So we can talk about it

Hurt the first, the last healing

And I'm praying that we will see
Something there in between
Then and there that exceeds all we can dream

And all these twisted thoughts I see
Jesus there in between
And all these twisted thoughts I see
Jesus there in between

Its about waiting for 'the one'.

"It can't be true 'cause we're too young...I know that's true because so long I was so in love with you": shes saying that she was waiting for him and loving him long before she knew exactly who he was

"I'm not faithless...Just paranoid of getting lost or that I might lose": what an amazing line...I know I feel that way a lot...I try so hard to always have faith in God's plan for me...but sometimes its hard to be waiting for it...even though my faith is always there, its hard to not be afraid that things aren't going to happen as soon as I hope...its the doubt that creeps up when you don't want it to

"And I'm praying that we will see something there in between then and there that exceeds all we can dream": having faith in God puting you and 'the one' in the right place at the right time and having sparks fly between you...praying for the moment that you meet the one you've been waiting for...having it be even better than you could ever have imagined

"And all these twisted thoughts I see Jesus there in between": having faith in the Lord to create your relationship when the time is right and to forever be a part of it

I completely love this song and everything it says. It makes me all twitterpatted over the one Im waiting for. Whoever he is.

i agree with the both of you... you might be asking how can you agree with both when there compeletly different... music is an art and theres many ways to interpret lyrics... and one sentence can mean so much more then just one thing... the first time i heard this since i just got out of a relationchip.. i felt pain... and you know the break up...

We say to those who are in love It can't be true 'cause we're too young I know that's true because so long I was So in love with you So I thought

i interpret this as i thought i was once in love but i was to young to understand what love is... and it really wasn't... and when your a teenager or w/e when you say that your in love with someone your jsut saying it but when you get in a break up your like woah... i didn't love them... and when you think about it your saying you thought you were in love...

On my knees Dim lighted room

and this i picture someone praying to god b/c of there pain and just on there knees b/c of the break up and yeah all that graet stuff...

and i see this as waiting for the one b/c you only hav to go thru one break up to understand that your not ready... or that love really does hurt... and its kinda getting out of a relationship and understanding gods faith and trusting in god and not her feelings...

but this is just whati get from it... i see it more on the break up but i also see where the one comes in also... and im sure theres more meaning that people havn't posted...

i don't know about you, but the first time i heard this song i thought it was about an extremely painful teenage relationship ("we're too young") and both kids are just trying to move on and stay friends, but she really wants to talk to him about it... this is just my opinion here, feel free to attack it...

I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with meeting your "special someone" and everything to do with a tough break up. Anyone thats been through a tough one, would instantly get it. It explains all the feelings you go through. You go from thinking your in love with someone and going to spend your life with them, and then feeling like why were you even with them. Everytime you think about them, its painful, even after time.

"I'm not faithless Just paranoid of getting lost or that I might lose Ignorance is bliss cherish it Pretty neighborhoods you learn to much to hold Believe it not''

This is saying a couple of different things. First after a tough break up you lose hope in relationships. You feel like avoiding them altogether because you don't want to feel that kind of pain again. Not knowing the hurt of love and loss, may be worth not loving at all, and all you see when u see others in love is the good and not the bad, so its misleading to those who have never loved.

"And fight the tears With pretty smiles and lies about the times"

This is saying when your around other or talking to others, you try to hide your pain by acting like things are so good, and making things sound better than they are with lies.

I agree with many of you... personally I dont believe in God, but this song does have a lot of God related parts in it,,, ex praying, faith, etc... but it can also be taken as just relationship wise... when I first heard this song I cried... it reminded me so much of things that have happened to me

The everlasting memories,, "fight the tears with pretty smiles and lies about the times" wow I've done that so many times...

A year goes by And I can't talk about it The times weren't right And I couldn't talk about it ....that, wow... I can relate to that so much

Everything about this song is amazing. It's sung with such delicacy but at the same time with so much force.

I recently lost a friend when i told her how much she meant to me and that i still liked her. I kept it bottled up inside me so long that in the end she didnt like me the way i liked her. So when i lost her i was distraugt.

I felt like i had lost everything. I was in love with her but then i realised that there were plenty more fish in the sea

This is definitely a breakup song, but there's more to it than that. I agree with what most people have posted, but there are certain lines I interpret differently.

"All your twisted thoughts free flow To everlasting memories Show soul Kiss the stars with me And dread the wait for Stupid calls returning to us to life"

First off, since she says "your" thoughts, I take this to mean her ex-boyfriend's. To me, it sounds like this verse is about the past. The two of them would have conversations in which "twisted thoughts free flow" aka talk about taboo things people don't normally discuss. However, these conversations "show soul" as in showed who they really were without restraint and created memories that she's thinking about in this verse. The last two lines show that they were infatuated with each other and dreaded being interrupted. This entire verse shows the nature of their relationship. It sounds like she was shutting other people out and relying entirely on him, which is why the breakup was so painful.

"We say to those who are in love It can't be true 'cause we're too young I know that's true because so long I was So in love with you So I thought"

This is pretty straightforward; she was told by her peers and others that she was too young to really be in love, but she didn't believe them. Now that it's over, she isn't sure whether or not it was true love. Her ideas are overly romanticized, and she doesn't understand how they could've broken up if they were ever truly in love. However, judging by the depth of her feelings and pain, she really was in love with him.

"On my knees Dim lighted room Thoughts free flow try to consume myself in this I'm not faithless Just paranoid of getting lost or that I might lose"

This is probably my favorite line. She truly believed she was in love with him and put a lot of faith into their relationship. Since it went under, she's second guessing her faith in other things as well, like God, but she doesn't want to be unsure about that. By saying she's paranoid of "getting lost" I think she means losing a part of herself. I was very much infatuated with my first love as well, and he and I were together for 2 years. In that time, I drifted away from my friends and he was the only person who really knew me by the end of our relationship. Considering how the first verse described their relationship, I think she's experiencing this same thing. She feels alone now that he isn't there and, more than anything, is terrified that she'll never experience that kind of relationship again and that that part of herself will forever cease to exist. The line "that I might lose" means something different. It would make more sense if you could add a word onto the end of this line, what is she afraid of losing? Herself could also be the answer here, but I think the best answer is her faith, hope, or will to live. After such a terrible breakup, she's in danger of falling into a depression she won't escape from. She's trying to prevent that by not losing those 3 listed things. She knows if she loses them, she may never be happy again. This line may even refer to suicide, which goes along with the idea that she doesn't want to lose the will to live. I remember people often saying something like "God promised he would never do anything to us we couldn't handle." I know it's unlikely she's thinking this exactly, but it goes along these lines. Suicide is considered by many denominations to be a sin, since its taking control of your life instead of leaving it in God's hands. By saying "I'm not faithless" could be read as she's so depressed, she almost wants to kill herself but knows that it would be a sin.

"Ignorance is bliss cherish it Pretty neighborhoods you learn to much to hold Believe it not And fight the tears With pretty smiles and lies about the times"

This verse is also pretty easily understood. She's realizing that the way things look on the surface isn't necessarily the way they are. She's putting on a front and pretending that she's happy, as much to fool herself as to fool others.

"Choris Romance says goodnight Close your eyes and I'll close mine Remember you, remember me Hurt the first, the last between

And I'm praying that we will see Something there in between Then and there that exceeds all we can dream So we can talk about it"

These two verses are what she wishes could happen now. The "you" is her ex-boyfriend. She wants the two of them to stop concentrating on how bad everything is and stop and remember how things used to be. She's hoping that by doing so, they'll realize that they want to give it another try. "Then and there" I think means "the beginning and the end" as in of their relationship. She wants them to remember the times they were happiest and remember the dreams they had of being together in the future so that they'll be able to talk to each other again. She wants them to find something worth trying for.

During a live recording on April 15, 2006, lead singer Lacey Mosley said: "I don't know about you guys, but I've made a lot of mistakes in my life. I've hurt a lot of people and I've been hurt by a lot of people. There's a lot of guys out there that really mistreat girls, and a lot of girls out there that really mistreat guys. I've broken promises that I've made to people that I love and to God and everything. I've messed up a lot, and the point is that if you've been messed up and made mistakes doesn't mean that you have to keep screwing up, or that your life is ruined and that you're worthless. It means that you can start over, you just have to make that decision yourself. That's what I think about when I sing this song."

    Song Meaning

This is the actual meaning, as said by Lacey herself. Don't believe me? Here's a link to the video.
youtube.com/watch It is talking about a boyfriend/girlfriend at first, and how a lot of the time once we get out of a relationship where we're being hurt over and over again, we feel like we're worthless, and that there's nothing better out there. I personally felt that way a long time about my mother, who was without necessary medications for the majority of my childhood. But, God is the one that made us, and he created us beautiful and with value.

In all these twisted thoughts I see Jesus there in between.

    My Interpretation

I think its about breaking up but still actually being in love. I think the relationship is over, but she still has feelings for him and cares.

"All your twisted thoughts free flow To everlasting memories Show soul Kiss the stars with me And dread the wait for Stupid calls returning to us to life" -This is during the relationship. When your young and you first have that thrilled uncertainty. You think of all these things like, do they really love me, do I really love them and you are always so anxious to talk to them again. Hence the 'dread the wait for, stupid calls returning us to life' the worst part of the calls is waiting, and we are returned to life once the call comes in, were relieved.

"We say to those who are in love It can't be true 'cause we're too young I know that's true because so long I was So in love with you So I thought" -And this is where it gets sad. She is still in love with him, she was 'so in love' meaning she thought she couldn't live without him. As adults you know that simply isn't true. Which is why you say your 'too young' to really know what you're thinking. But you know to some degree. She is doubting herself in both the do I/did I love him? when she says 'so I thought'

"A year goes by And I can't talk about it" -this is a year after the breakup, and its hard for her to talk or think about it because she is still hurting over him, and still in love.

"On my knees Dim lighted room Thoughts free flow try to consume myself in this I'm not faithless Just paranoid of getting lost or that I might lose" -She is still hurting and scarred that she let go of her one love, she wants to believe that everything will be ok but its hard, and she is worried.

"Ignorance is bliss cherish it Pretty neighborhoods you learn to much to hold Believe it not And fight the tears With pretty smiles and lies about the times" -And this is like, if you dont know or never experienced what she is feeling good, and hold on to that ignorance. If you have, never give in to the bad thoughts, and as much as it may hurt 'fight the tears(pain) with pretty smiles and lies about the times(out on a brave face and pretend it alright even if it isn't.)'

"A year goes by And I can't talk about it The times weren't right And I couldn't talk about it" -This part gets me every time I hear it. Especially 'the times weren't right' this is the same as before except now she is admitting that they were too young and things couldn't have worked. they had too much growing up to do, symbolized by 'and i couldn't talk about it'

"Chorus Romance says goodnight Close your eyes and I'll close mine Remember you, remember me Hurt the first, the last between Chorus Romance says goodnight Close your eyes and I'll close mine Remember you, remember me Hurt the first, the last, between" -Its typical when you are that age to hear about romances and fairy tales, but there chorus romance says goodnight and they leave each other 'close your eyes and I'll close mine". She just want to remember them when they were good, but also what went wrong so that they don't repeat it.

"And I'm praying that we will see Something there in between Then and there that exceeds all we can dream So we can talk about it" -She is hoping that one day when they are grown up maybe they can both be truly happy, they can both 'talk about it'.

That's the feeling i get from the song when I listen to it. But I think that's what is wonderful about music is your ability to interpret its meaning for yourself.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
