All I Want Lyrics
All I want is nothing more,
To hear you knocking at my door,
Cause if i could see your face once more,
I could die as a happy man I'm sure.
When you said your last goodbye,
I died a little bit inside.
I lay in tears in bed all night,
Alone without you by my side.
But If you loved me,
Why'd you leave me?
Take my body,
Take my body.
All I want is,
And all I need is,
To find somebody.
I'll find somebody,
Like you.
Cause you brought out the best of me,
A part of me I'd never seen.
You took my soul wiped it clean,
Our love was made for movie screens.
But If you loved me,
Why'd you leave me?
Take my body,
Take my body.
All I want is,
And all I need is,
To find somebody.
I'll find somebody.
But If you loved me,
Why'd you leave me?
Take my body,
Take my body.
All I want is,
And all I need is,
To find somebody.
I'll find somebody,
Like you.
To hear you knocking at my door,
Cause if i could see your face once more,
I could die as a happy man I'm sure.
I died a little bit inside.
I lay in tears in bed all night,
Alone without you by my side.
Why'd you leave me?
Take my body.
All I want is,
And all I need is,
To find somebody.
I'll find somebody,
Like you.
A part of me I'd never seen.
You took my soul wiped it clean,
Our love was made for movie screens.
Why'd you leave me?
Take my body.
All I want is,
And all I need is,
To find somebody.
I'll find somebody.
Why'd you leave me?
Take my body.
All I want is,
And all I need is,
To find somebody.
I'll find somebody,
Like you.

this song is stunning. it's so beautiful because it's so simple. we all want to ask that one question, but it'll hurt too much, or we're too scared to hear the answer. "but if you loved me, why'd you leave me?" this song is fantastic
could not have said it better myself, the pure simplicity of the song is what makes it so great, its all face value and is all we know we want to ask but dont have the courage to and why we can connect so well to it.

Same, it's just so beautifully simple. The question we want to ask but just can't

@lhuang102 I think everyone can hear this song how they choose to hear it, but this song is definitely referring to something more permanent than a breakup. The "take my body" line is reference to when the only way they'll be together again. As noted below, the "if you loved me, why'd you leave me" isn't referring to a significant lover changing their mind, as much as it is the speaker (as for many people who lose loved ones) angry that their love has passed without them... the feeling of "how could you leave me on this earth alone?" And the rest is him/her contemplating how they'll ever be able to love someone as much as the former.
I understand this song not just as a simple post-break up song, but more like song when the beloved one is gone for good. I find it more from the way of singing rather than lyrics but the words as well. They are singing about a wish to see the face once more and if the person is alive, no matter where he/she lives, it's possible to meet again. Also, saying "But If you loved me, Why'd you leave me?" sounds like an accusation "how could you left me here alone?". And the last argument is about the line "Take my body", it's asking to take the body to the place the love is, because the soul and mind are already there.
This is a beautiful (yet sad) interpretation of the song, well done!

Not going to lie, I cried hard the first time I heard this song. Very true that in a break up it feels like a death. As simple as this song is, it perfectly portrays the strong emotion and desires that follow a painful breakup. His voice carries his feelings so beautifully.
I think it could be taken either way. I'm sure they wanted it to apply broadly to any sort of loss. Sometimes a break-up can seem just as devastating and permanent as the death of a loved one. Either way, it is a beautiful song with plenty of emotion.
Mark Prendergast of Kodaline! said the meaning of this song is: MP: It’s a song about that lonely place after a break-up, feeling lost.

"So you brought out the best of me A part of me I've never seen You took my soul and wiped it clean Our love was made for movie screens"
It's a great feeling to have someone bring out the best in yourself, someone you didn't even know existed. This verse describes exactly what I felt after a tough breakup. I felt as if my life was the greatest and most passionate during that relationship.
You really don't know what you have until it's gone.
Happy listening,
Eric
When I lost my bestfriends skiah and jaiah I was heartbroken and also when listen to this song I cry because when he says "when you said your last goodbyes i died a little bit inside I lay in bed with tears in bed all night" and this part "cause you brought out the best of a part of me ive never seen you took my soul and wiped it clean" that hit me because I mean yea whenever I was with them they made me the happiest ive ever been in a long time and yea and when they moved I was heatbroken because i didnt know when I was going to see them again and now at school they avoid me because I said something that was never true
Such a sad and beautiful song~
To me, this song can mean two things. A failed relationship. Or a failed family bond.
I'm pretty sure that the 'failed relationship' thing is so overused, so I'm going to go with the failed family bond.
"All I want is nothing more To hear you knocking at my door"- The young boy wants his mother or father back.
"Cause If I could see your face once more I would die as a happy man I'm sure"- If the young boy could see their face one last time, he'd be elated.
"When you said you last goodbye I died a little bit inside"- When they walked out the door and left him, the young boy was upset.
"I lay in tears in bed at night Alone without you by my side"- The young boy cries himself to sleep and wishes for the comfort of his parent again.
"But if you loved me Why'd you leave me?"- The boy wonders that if they loved him like they said or expressed, then why did they leave him behind?
"Take my body Take my body"- Ehh... I don't know how to put this line...
"All I want is All I need is To find somebody I'll find somebody"- The boy wants and needs somebody to take away his pain (like a new parent) and that he's sure he'll find the one.
"Cause you brought out the best in me A part of me I'd never seen"-When they were around, the boy was a whole new other person he never thought he was.
"You took my soul wiped it clean our love was made for movie screens"- The boy is saying that their bond deserved to be seen by others.
And the rest of the song is kind of repeating itself but you know what I mean.
I was thinking about that part after first chorus (and then in the end), maybe I am paranoid, but it sounds like he sings "you are home" or "you are whole"
This song is saying that he cannot live without his love. The lyric "But if you loved me, why'd you leave me" gets me every time because this song was in The Fault In Our Stars and it describes it perfectly. Hazel and Agustus were in love, and will always be in love. She missed him dearly. She missed seeing his face and hearing his voice but she knew she'd see him again soon.
