Dots and Dashes (Enough Already)

This song perfectly captures the horror aspect of the albums sound because through my point of view, its terrifying

The way I see it, the song starts with the narrorator who is screaming but no sound can come out because of the pure shock and horror of walking in on a woman (possibly a lover, but definitely someone close) who has just hung herself She is innocence slowly spinning around as she hangs from the ceiling, her feet floating above the floor with an worn dress, she pretty much resembles a ghost at first glance but it turns out much worse ("so you wanna mess with me" - the initial fake scare of the ghost)

The dots and dashes on the wall are her suicide note. I presume those dots and dashes spell out the chorus until the point when the narrorator stops himself from reading (ENOUGH ALREADY!)

When he sees her spinning there, he recalls a time when he could have prevented this - "Should I have stepped in, and blown it all down?"

In his despair, confusion, and light of the moon, he then mistakes her again for a ghost and begins talking to her. She tells him to follow her and he'll be surprised by being able to see things in a different light (a coded sunrise) His grip on reality begins to loosen and then thats the end of his story...

The horror aspect is exemplified in the song. My personally view on this is that it's about a female vampire coming to turn the narrator of the song.

Heat filling up my cheeks This is about the blood rushing through the singers cheeks.

Your feet float above the floor Dress torn above your knees Like you've owned it for centuries

This is reference to the female vampire hoovering over her kill, she's wearing clothes that ragged and look well worn and old, because she has been around for centuries, and eventually she just stopped caring about her physical appearance.

The dot's and dashes on the wall are the stipling from her having killed and fed on someone in the narrators house. Their blood is flung over the wall in such as way as to resemble morse code, which is also a metaphor for the vampire woman getting tired and jaded about her immortality. She needs someone to rescuer her from the drudge of everlasting life. She has seen kingdoms come and go, she's seen champions and all kinds of wondrous things, but she's still ultimately alone. The narrator wants to be turned, so he can be with her and see the things she's seen, and he trys to convince her that he can be her companion by sharing his experiences. She tells him that he's too young and inexperienced to live up to that expectation, she can't save him.

In the chorus, he's basically trying to convince her to let him into the pact of immortality and power. He's telling her he has lived and done things and that he's already broken and has the halmarks of a vampire, he's sexually obscene, he's not afraid to sin and walk in the darkness. Just give him a shot.

She eventually does, and they go together into the night, Signalling in a moonbeam. His innocence is slowly leached from him, and he becomes more jaded and hard as a vampire. The innocence also represents his blood being taken from him and his turning in the context of the story.He burns away his humanity.

He follows her and she teaches him the the ways of the vampire. The codes in the sunrise represent that they will die in the sun, and therefore can not understand the lives of those that walk in the light. It becomes foreign to them, but she's telling him even though he becomes jaded and can't understand them, there is still worth in it. And if she ever feels him trying to leave her that she will end him and he will never seen the countless ages and power than he sought. He's her's and She is his, forever.

This song is about the conflicting issue of vampirism in a relationship between Oskar and Eli from the novel/film Let the Right One In. Or it could be anyway

Well, the lyrics may seem related to horror, but I think that they go along with the music video a little more. In the music video starring Elise Eberle and Allie Teilz, the girl played by Elise's thoughts go along with the lyrics. In the song, she is swaying with depression but love in her newly experienced feelings for the girl played by Allie. All of the lesbian feelings from her perspective are new and confusing. I'm already born I'm already wise I'm already worn I'm already wonderin' what am I I'm already rough I'm already lean I'm already wanting to be obscene I'm already cursed I'm already dry I'm already wonderin' what am I I've already learned a bit of sin Enough already, let me in This shows that Elise's love for Allie is making her depressed, and confused for a new feeling. In the part where it says, "I've already learned a bit of sin", she is clearly feeling guilty because she is usually used to following the rules placed by society. In the music video, there are two different settings, Elise and Allie, and Elise alone doubting herself. In the moments of doubt, she is doing things like looking at herself in the mirror, or petting her cat for reassurement or satisfaction, either way to soothe herself. And my grip starts loosening The edge of the big reveal Could be the end of the story At this part, Elise seems to be trying to decide whether to confess her love for Allie or not. Her grip is loosening, but the only happiness in her life comes from being with Allie, and she doesn't want to lose her. "Could be the end of the story" means that Elise is afraid of talking to Allie because losing her would be the end of HER story, and her life would be over. I find this very depressing, especially at the end when Allie leaves.

Man I really wish that someone would make a movie or write a book for the music video of this song.

I feel like that song is about helping someone you adore with troubles in their life like suicide and family

It's about a guy in a suicide cult.

Signal in a moonbeam is about when they are all planning to "leave earth." They've all been brainwashed by some culty cunt to think they're going somewhere better after they all do group suicide, but the narrator has his second guesses about it all: "if I don't like what I see, and my grip (on life) starts loosening, the edge of the big reveal (surprise! No big reveal, you twat!) , could be the end of the story." it's like he's thinking about what it's gonna be like the moment before death and he realizes there is nothing after death (kinda like how there was nothing before he was conceived) and he is pondering what if he fails to abort his suicide.

For me, they're singing about an existential crises, depression and mostly suicide. I can't quite tell que reason for them to be feeling this way, because there could be many, based on the lyrics itself.

When they says "caught in a silent scream", they say he's been asking for help and trying to show how he's been feeling. He's screaming, but silently. And then someone saw him struggling with himself.

Sometimes they're describing the act of hanging himself ("Heat filling up my cheeks / Not exactly what you think" - when someone's got heaten cheeks, at first you think it's an warm, comfortable and even loving situation. But it's not exactly what you think: he hanged himself, so the blood is all in his head due to the rope, knots and whatever), sometimes they seem to be talking to someone who's already dead ("See you in the room next door / Your feet float above the floor / Dress torn above your knees / Like you've owned it for centuries" - this person has also comitted suicide, maybe also by hanging, like they describe the floating of the body and the way the dress is, like standing there for a long time. Maybe they're the reason the first one is kiling himself/having suicidal thoughts).

The title could be some self-shooting mark, brain-exploding with a shotgun. Dots and dashes of one's brains on the scene. And then they're talking to someone (maybe a therapist), and this person is telling they're gonna get through it. ("You tell me about the falls / Of kingdoms and champions / You've seen a thousand times before" - the psychologist says even the best people out there maybe once questioned their place on Earth.) They talked about it, the one singing had opened up with the doctor, but it wasn't enough. ("I'll show you my private things Like my scrapbook of fantasies / You say I look a little too green / For saving" - again, they talked about better days and hopes and dreams and aspirations, but now it's too late. He's a little too green, the body is already dead.)

Now, here comes the part about what is the meaning of life, which is my personal favorite. "I'm already bored I'm already wise I'm already worn I'm already wondering, 'What am I?' I'm already rough I'm already lean I'm already wanting to be obscene I'm already cursed I'm already dry I'm already wondering, 'What am I?' I've already learned a bit of sin Enough already, let me in" He's already lived a lot, suffered a lot, realized a lot about himself, the world, others, etc. People say we are born to be happy and happiness, love, self-realization is all there is, but how could one tell that he's there? He's hurt, tired, depressed, and he doesn't want to keep doing this all over again until he's finally "happy". He's been through enough. Let him in (on paradise, another life, whatever).

"You say that I'll be surprised / At the codes in the sunrise": here again he's talking to someone who's already dead. They already been there, crossed the line; they know what's after life. He has no ideia what happens next.

And then maybe he doesn't actually killed himself, but is seriously thinking about it. A little afraid of this is all there is. "But if I don't like what I see / And my grip starts loosening" - what if he is brave enough to do it, and then there's nothing better? What if it's too late to turn back? But he's so curious... "The edge of the big reveal / Could be the end of the story": maybe the "goosebumps", the feeling of answering the world's number 1 question (what's death, what happens, what if death is the best feeling ever, etc.), could make him do it just to prove a point. When he finally do it, he'll get all the answers.
