I've been sorted out
I've been blown to pieces
Things I've figured out have become new reasons
Steady looking out
I've been there before
I fell right through the pull-out door
Seen you nodding out in the back
Dark corner clouds
I'm always spinning out
And everyone knows I'm a pacer
They hear me knocking around all night
Because they know that there's something
That doesn't want to get me together
And when I try to explain, yeah
I just tangled in the melted wires that stop my head
And they know that there's something
That doesn't want to get me together
I'm looking for a dull and a fleeting feeling
To stop all the sharp and the heavy breathing
That always gets too loud
I've been there before
I fell right through the pull-out door
Seen you nodding out in the back
Dark corner clouds
I'm always spinning out
And everyone knows I'm a pacer
They hear me knocking around all night
Because they know that there's something
That doesn't want to get me together
And when I try to explain, yeah
I just tangled in the melted wires that stop my head
And they know that there's something
That doesn't want to get me together
I'm steady looking out
I'm steady looking out
And everyone knows I'm a pacer
They hear me knocking around all night

Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.
Great version of a great song,
