Headlights Lyrics

Late like the evening sun, I
I sink to the ground
But I'll keep my promises, I
I won't let you down

Cause like a rabbit in your headlights
I am the beckon to your call
And like the early morning headlines
I am all too predictable
Yea I'm all too predictable (oh oh oh)

You're steady as I come undone, you
You're quietly bound
But I'll keep my promises, like
I won't let you down (yea)

Cause like a rabbit in your headlights
I am the beckon to your call
And like the early morning headlines
I'm all too predictable
Yea I'm all too predictable

True like the first born
Weighed pound for pound
I'll keep my promises, like
A thorn in your crown (yea)

Cause like a rabbit in your headlights
I am the beckon to your call
Just say your boss is hell high
Cause I'm all too predictable
Yea I'm all too predictable

"I'm all too predictable" I thought he was saying "I'm all to forgettable"

My two-cents. It's about a person who defaults into a fight or flight mode. That's the predictable part. And someone loves them very much and is solid and strong for them, but asks them to stick around and trust them - not to leave - not to go into flight at the first scare. But everything scares them - like the morning headlines, everything seems to be a disaster, so run! But the person can't run because the strong person who loves them beckons to them with high beams - when they are in trouble, the high beams come on and they freeze like a rabbit in the headlights and cannot run away. They feel like a thorn in this person's side, but the person does not see it that way. The person just loves them so strongly, that all they want is for the rabbit not to flee.

My Interpretation

@BlueTable Can you look up Speechless and give your thoughts in this one?

My interpretation of the song is that it's about a really one-sided relationship where he would do anything for her (just say jump and I'll say "how high?") but she's not very emotionally invested in him at all (you're steady as I come undone). Even while he's falling apart, he's worried about letting her down, and keeping his promises to her. It also seems like she's using him to some extent, because she knows how enamored he is with her, and knows he'll do anything for her (I am the beckon to your call.) That's his predictability, that he can't say no to her, and even though he seems to be aware on a conscious level that she's not really invested, and that she's using him, he is too wildly blindly in love with her to even care.

@BlueMoon67 Can you give your take on Speechless too?
