Galaxidion Lyrics

Let us be wise and resigned
Let us be sweet and obedient
Let us be fit and guided
Let us be wise and let us submit

How sweet it is to obey and to carry out happiness
Whilst being appropriately unburdened by wise and worthy guides
Relieved from the heavy burden of responsibility
Responsibility for our direction of our behaviour
Which won't be necessary before the social laws of nature

Cover art for Galaxidion lyrics by Stereolab

I think this song means the opposite of what it says since I can't imagine Stereolab actually believing "how sweet it is to obey." I think it's saying that religions/ideologies and their "wise and worthy guides" (preachers/teachers/philosophers) relieve adherents from the "heavy burden responsibility" for finding what life means for themselves or what is true on an individual level. This relief seems like wisdom, and it feels easy to follow their teaching instead of finding our own individual truth or way-of-being which is so much more difficult to find.
