Now you're out there with no target
So your friends become your aim
But there is no one left around you
So there is no one left to blame

And what you don't know, it won't hurt you
And what you don't know will save you from some pain
But if I could choose I'd let it hurt you
'Cause there's something bout life in the pain

Yeah there's something inside you starting
Like there's a fight coming your way
But there'll be no fists you'll be throwing
Just some words you got to say

And you'll scream for our repentance
Or you'll hide behind what's fake
But there ain't nothing to forgiveness
And you give as freely as you take

And what you don't know, it won't hurt you
And what you don't know will save you from some pain
But if I could choose I'd let it hurt you
'Cause there's something bout life in the pain

And I don't need to know you stories
Don't need to understand your pain
'Cause I've been here since the beginning
And I'll be here the rest of the way
And I'll be here the rest of the way

Now you've tried your hand at running
But don't you try your hand at fate
'Cause there's a moment to be taken
But it's right before you break

And what you don't know, it won't hurt you
And what you don't know will save you from some pain
But if I could choose I'd let it hurt you
'Cause there's something bout life in the pain
'Cause there's something bout life in the pain
Is there something bout life in the pain

    My Interpretation

I'm just going to write down about what I think this song means.

Now you don't have a purpose Don't let anybody in (Something very tragic happened, probably a break up that this person thought he would never have to face, or he's been rejected from someone he loves very much). You don't understand why she don't love you But you don't understand yourself (He doesn't understand why she doesn't love him back, he tried his best and there's still no luck. But in the end, he realizes that he doesn't really understand what's going on with himself. He doesn't know what to do anymore with his life). Now you're out there with no target So your friends become your aim (Since he can't get her off his mind and doesn't know what to do with his life anymore, he tries to go to his friends for some comfort and company to keep her off of his mind). But there is no one left around you So there is no one left to blame (But maybe in the past he has ignored his friends before just for this one person he loves because he became so attatched to her, perhaps he spent more time with her and payed less attention to his friends. So because of that, his friends aren't here for him no more. He has no one to blame for this, but himself).

And what you don't know, it won't hurt you And what you don't know will save you from some pain (I think there could be two meanings for this part. He doesn't know why she doesn't feel the same way anymore or never felt the same way like he does. If he doesn't know the reason why she doesn't love him back, the truth will hurt him and safe him from some pain. Or this part could mean that since she's now gone from his life, it won't hurt him to know what she does in her future. For example, go out with another guy. He wouldn't have to know this so it won't hurt him and will save him from some pain). But if I could choose I'd let it hurt you 'Cause there's something about life in the pain (I'm not very sure about what this part means, but I think it means that he'd rather know the truth or he'd rather know what she does in her future. This would obviously hurt him, so he would rather let it hurt himself. And I think the next part means that the pain he has in himself makes him feel at least something other than nothing).

Yeah there's something inside you starting Like there's a fight coming your way (He feels so many mixed feelings right now. Anger, sadness, pain... it's just too much to handle. It feels like he's fighting with himself, he's struggling to get through each day). But there'll be no fists you'll be throwing Just some words you got to say (This fight that he's in with himself is not physical. He's fighting to say some words he wants to say so bad to her, but he just can't. Either because she doesn't care, or he just don't have the strength to tell her). And you'll scream for our repentance Or you'll hide behind what's fake (He feels like screaming and he just wants to let everything out, and so he does. He regrets what he did in the past because now he's suffering from it. So he turns to God for his faith. His faith is in God's hands. The second part means that he's trying to hide how he actually feels, he could be by putting a fake smile on and act like everything's okay, when it's no where near okay. He hides behind this fake smile). But there ain't nothing to forgiveness And you give as freely as you take (Not sure what this part means either, but I think he can't forgive himself or her. He just gives himself up so easily and takes things as they come and go).

And what you don't know, it won't hurt you And what you don't know will save you from some pain But if I could choose I'd let it hurt you 'Cause there's something about life in the pain (Same thing, as I wrote about this before).

And I don't need to know your stories Don't need to understand your pain 'Cause I've been here since the beginning (He doesn't need to know about the girl's stories about her life or understand her pain because he already knows them from the beginning, since he's always been there for her through everything.) And I'll be here the rest of the way And I'll be here the rest of the way (He will always be here for her, no matter what happens or what he has to go through, that's true love).

Now you've tried your hand at running Why don't you try your hand at faith? (He tried to run away from himself and tried his best, but he just can't escape from how he really feels. The singer is questioning him "why doesn't he just let faith handle everything and make it okay?" Faith will always lead you to where you belong, it'll always give you the best in the end, so just believe and try not to run away from your feelings). 'Cause there's a moment to be taken But it's right before you break (Not sure what this part means either, but I think it means that you can try and fix things with yourself before it's too late. You might even think about suicide because of all this pain inside of you, but if you think positive, then breaking down won't be as bad. You need to take advantage of that moment before you break).

And what you don't know, it won't hurt you And what you don't know will save you from some pain But if I could choose I'd let it hurt you 'Cause there's something about life in the pain (Same thing, as I wrote about this before).

This song is just so beautiful. I can relate to it. I'm sure everyone can, even if it doesn't have to deal with some sort of break up you're going through.

    My Interpretation

I think the lyrics are supposed to be the subconscious thoughts of someone who is responsible for his own misfortunes. He's talking to himself, but it's not anything anyone would realize they are feeling or thinking. It just happens subconsciously.

Beautiful song! However, I don't completely understand the meaning of this one moment

"Now you've tried your hand at running But don't you try your hand at fate"

What does it mean - to try your hand at fate?

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
