I know
I never make this easy
It's easier to disappear

You said give me something
A thing that I can go on
Together, yeah anywhere but here

Sing it back
Oh-oh, Oh-oh, Oh-oh, Oh-oh
Hey
Oh-oh, oh whoa ooh whoa ooh

And I'm begging you bring me back to life
I just can't stand leaving you alone tonight
It's too late to go
Already taken me forever just to try, you know
One for the money, two for the show
Three to get ready, and four to go
For the life of me
I don't know why it took me so long to see (I just)

Stutter, Stutter, Stutter
Di-di-di-di-di-did I
Stutter, Stutter, Stutter
Di-di-di-di-di-di-did I
Stutter, Stutter, Stutter
Di-di-di-di-di-did I
Stutter, Stutter, Stutter
Di-di-di-di-di-di-did I

Sunshine
Blinds you if you stare but
Now I see, yeah
(Crystal) crystal clear
So here I am
You can take or leave me
But I won't ever be anywhere but here

Sing it back
Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh
I'll sing it back to me yeah
Oh whoa-ooh whoa-ooh whoa-ooh

And I'm begging you bring me back to life
I just can't stand leaving you alone tonight
It's too late to go
Already taken me forever just to try, you know
One for the money, two for the show
Three to get ready, and four to go
For the life of me
I don't know why it took me so long to see (I just)

Stutter, Stutter, Stutter
Di-di-di-di-di-did I
Stutter, Stutter, Stutter
Di-di-di-di-di-di-did I
Stutter, Stutter, Stutter
Di-di-di-di-di-did I
Stutter, Stutter, Stutter
Di-di-di-di-di-di-did I

Oh, na na na
Stutter
Oh, na na na
Did I
Oh, na na na, (Yeah)
Di-di-di-di-did the guy
Di-di-di-di-did I
Di-di-di-di, di-di-di-di, di-di-di-di
Di-di-di-di-did I?

Oh-oh, Oh-oh, Oh-oh, Oh-oh
Have you been singing
Oh whoa-ooh whoa-ooh whoa-ooh
Hey

(4, 3, 2, 1)

Bring me back to life
I just can't stand leaving you alone tonight
It's too late to go
Already taken me forever just to try, you know
One for the money, two for the show
Three to get ready, and four to go
For the life of me
I don't know why it took me so long to see (I just)

Stutter, stutter, stutter
Di-di-di-di-di-did I
Stutter, stutter, stutter
Di-di-di-di-di-di-did I
Stutter, stutter, stutter
Di-di-di-di-di-did I
Stutter, stutter, stutter
Di-di-di-di-di-di-did I

One of the best songs on the album and nice use of the choir :)

It is a good song and only one person in my lifetime has ever caused me to stutter (repeatedly). It was rather comical because the confident woman I always thought I was flew out the window in the presence of someone so unique. With that said, the song is requesting that someone stay with another. And unfortunately it reminds me of the songs Coming Down and My Boots. There are lines in those songs that are honest...and cause a great deal of discomfort.

He wants her, and but he's too nervous to actually approach her right, so when he does he stutters. He questions himself about the stuttering, because hes not usually the one to stutter, but this girl makes him nervous. He's asking her to love him.

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.
