You never really wanted it
You'll settle for a bit of it
We started with a big bang
And now it's coming back again

Hey, don't you feel it now?
My shiny side down
Hey, burning brighter still
And you're getting sick
And you're feeling it

It'll wear you down and wear you down
You chase it, breathing in and out and in and out
They'll push you up against the wall, against the wall
You didn't think you'd feel it all but you were wrong about it
Push

It started with a handgun
Loaded with excuses
I started faking it
And then we started breaking it
All the pieces used to fit
Using like it's going out of style
Maybe just a little while
And This will be the last time
Every time's the last time

Hey, don't you feel it now?
My shiny side down
Hey, burning brighter still
And you're getting stuck
And you fucked it up

It'll wear you down and wear you down
You chase it, breathing in and out and in and out
They'll push you up against the wall, against the wall
You didn't think you'd feel it all but you were wrong about it

Push

I regreted it
I regret a lot of things
I regreted it
I regret a lot of things

It'll wear you down and wear you down
(I regreted it)
You chase it, breathing in and out and in and out
(I regret a lot of things)
They'll push you up against the wall, against the wall
(I regreted it)
You didn't think you'd feel it all but you were wrong
(I regret a lot of things)
About it

(I regret a lot of things)
They'll push you up against the wall, against the wall
(I regreted it)
You didn't think you'd feel it all but you were wrong
(I regret a lot of things)

And you're feeling it
It'll wear you down and wear you down
You chase it, breathing in and out and in and out
They'll push you up against the wall, against the wall
You didn't think you'd feel it all but you were wrong about it

Push

Sorry to burst any bubbles, but this is not at all about sex. If you were a fan of the band, you'd know the lead singer - song writer, Josh, had bulimia and a heroin addiction. I think it's a mixture of both, but also possibly about the pressure that came with trying to overcome both of them.

Well at first thought it sounds like it's about sex...but I guess if you really analyze it, it COULD be about heroin...

"It'll wear you down and wear you down (You chase it breathing in and out and in and out)" -The 'wear you down' part is self-explanitory...the breathing in and out could be inhaling and exhaling...since he smoked the heroin.

"You didn't think you'd feel it all but you were wrong about it" -I guess that could be ...he didn't think that it would really have an affect on him but it did...like whether he thought he wouldn't get high and he did or maybe he thought he wouldn't feel shitty after and he did.

"Using like it's going out of style maybe just a little while This'll be the last time everytime's a last time" -I agree with mrsjoshramsay for this part...also the fact that he says "using" instead of "using it" or something makes me think it's more about drugs.

    this part of the song

"It'll wear you down and wear you down (It's easy breathing in and out and in and out) I'll push you up against the wall against the wall You didn't think you'd feel it all but you were wrong about it"

that reminds me of that PUSHing game (also pass out game) where you breath in and out deeply and someone pushes you up against a wall and then you pass out/faint. just thought i'd put that out there

some parts of it make me think it's about an eating disorder.. even more than some of their other songs are about this too. either way, it's a great song. =)

i think this song is about his heroin addiction he used to have..

You never really wanted it You'll settle for a bit of it We started with a big bang And now it's coming back again

    • i think here he's saying that it started out that he only wanted to try it maybe to fit in or just for something to do and it didn't really matter, he just did it in his spare time and then all of a sudden he started craving it and depending on it basically.

It'll wear you down and wear you down

    • i guess it's basically self explanitory. it's something that makes you seem happier and happier everytime you take it when in reality, if you don't have it, you're just getting more and more depressed.

You didn't think you'd feel it all but you were wrong about it

    • i think he's saying that he tried it once and figured there'd be no harm in it since it was his first time but he got hooked right away?...

Using like it's going out of style maybe just a little while

    • i think he's saying how he used it soo much, everyday, maybe even several times a day almost as if the next day there'd be no way to get anymore.

This'll be the last time everytime's a last time

    • very self explanitory. he kept telling himself he was going to stop, going to quit, just one more time.. but one last time turned into a second time and then a third and so on...

and as the last lines say, he regrets ever touching it because it probably screwed his whole life up..

i don't think any of there songs sound like they're about relationships. their album is basically about josh's bulimia and heroin addiction hence the title of the cd, fix me..

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
