@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

So I'm guessing this song's about how him and a girl that he really liked broke up because he went on tour to launch his music career and she went to university and they couldn't cope with a long distance relationship and he wants her to know that he still loves her but she needs to find someone else who's going to love her more and that they're going to still be friends.
Ok, I've been looking through these comments and I have to disagree - I still think this is about a girl he broke up with because she's busy at university and he's busy with his career. I have friends in England that go to Oxford and whenever they tell me about school they always refer to it as "uni". Also, when he says "You live in your halls and I live in a tour bus" I think that's pretty obvious...
i know ed sheerans girlfriend and this song is about her. she went to uni (university) and he went on to hense the line 'but you live in your halls and i live in a tour bus' and they broke up it is a sad story because ed still like her but she has a new boyfriend. so thats what the song means!!!!

You know is strange but yeah U.N.I means university but if U.N.I means something like before they break up they were so close but now they are separate like U-N-I.Like she is in a place and he is in another place.That's what I think.
I hate it when people just copy and paste the lyrics from an unreliable source, rather than transcribing it themselves from the sleeve notes. Aside from the many minor spelling errors here, the chorus should be 'You and I ended over U.N.I'.
I'm probably stating the obvious here, but the way I see it, the point of the song is based around the wordplay "You and I" (two people), but when written as letters, it says U.N.I. which means ONE. Clever idea!
I believe the first line of the last stanza; it sums up the entire song.
