Sunloathe Lyrics

I loathe
The sun
Sometimes I don't
Know how to love
Anything myself
It's hard
To become
Hold on to it all
But kill my memories
with a cheap
Disease

To the sails
Fail
To the bird
and the whale
Remove my misery
It's all or nothing
I see
I don't wanna lose this fight
I don't wanna end this fight
Goodbye

I loathe
The Sun
Someday I know
I'll learn
How to love
Anymore is enough
I don't want to lose this fight
I don't want end this fight
Goodbye

I think the speaker is saying that he loathes the sun, because he is jealous of the happiness it brings to others. Happiness he doesn't feel yet, because he's feeling a little down and he's sure that this feeling will come to pass, but right now he hates the sun, the world and everything on the outside that keeps on going cheerfully makes him feel left behind and left out to figure it out but he knows he'll pick back up again someday...until then, this guy's pretty much in league with the average albino I guess.

My Interpretation
Cover art for Sunloathe lyrics by Wilco

The song seems about overcoming a disease like depression or a drug addiction, which was personal at one point for him. And perhaps everyone. He doesn't want any positive thoughts as his life is ending from a his patterned lifestyle.

"But kill my memories with a cheap Disease"

He doesn't want to lose those memories, but they are killed by this 'cheap disease' in depression

It could be also cancer or disease... but it seems like a lack of will further reinforced by an addiction or depression from constant daily monotony.

"Remove my misery It's all or nothing I see I don't wanna lose this fight I don't wanna end this fight Goodbye"
