I am completely shocked that there are no comments on this song. Simply amazing song and lyrics. My interpretation is that Kearney is singing about a girl he was in a relationship with a girl who never had any direction in her life, something I can certainly relate to. The girl was always lost, and obviously still is. It seems as if the two are now indeed broken up, so he is saying that he will pray for her and hope she will find what she is looking for in life. Mat Kearney is Christian and the lyrics in this song show it. It's about loving and praying for people, regardless of what they do. Very nice song ans great artist.
I think this song is about a childhood/early adulthood friend. The friend & mat might have been misguided youths at some point with no direction. Sounds like they lived together for a while trying to find themselves until one of them grew out of it or left. Years later he either gets a call from him or about him. He still wonders about his friend when he is driving alone at night & prays for him that one day he'll figure himself out.
They clearly aren't in touch anymore but Mat still keeps him in his prayers.
