Mighty Lyrics
Feet slipping on the porch to my house
Iced easy you can track in the snow
Duel gunning it happened the last time
Stop talking watch your head on the car
Cats Cradle and hail to the Rat King
Teeth sharpened on our broken bones
Look straight in the eyes of the hopeless
You can't swing if you don't use your arms
It's not like I was lost for a purpose
I lost purpose and purposefully froze
So be good if you think it can save you
yeah, be good if you're comfortably numb
And i will do my best to breathe with
I was happy I thought I'd escaped you
Pearl gates and a street made of gold
My memory it serves like a beat boy
I'm too stubborn and scared to be home
I'm finding out that there's actually a purpose
I'm caught cabbin' on the way to your home
Your body's asleep in a wheelchair
I'll start rolling you down toward the cars
And I will do my best to plead with
So let go of the sorrowful groaning
Let go of the ones you admire
It's not like I was devious or boastful
My arms waving, I'm saying goodbye
And I will do my best to breathe for you
Iced easy you can track in the snow
Duel gunning it happened the last time
Stop talking watch your head on the car
Teeth sharpened on our broken bones
Look straight in the eyes of the hopeless
You can't swing if you don't use your arms
I lost purpose and purposefully froze
So be good if you think it can save you

"It's not like I was lost for a purpose, I lost purpose and purposefully froze"
This line in the song really speaks to me. People spend the majority of their time looking for that purpose in life, at times it become very tedious and tiresome. For some of these people (myself included), we get stuck in a rut, believing that we will never find purpose or we never had purpose in life, and that terrifies us. So we purposely numb and freeze ourselves to overcome that fear.
The song makes me want to listen again and again but I couldn't get the tune of Lynyrd Skynyrd's Saturday Night Special out of my head while listening to it. Not a bad thing-it is an awesome song too! I believe this song could have several meanings-for one he is singing to someone frozen in the uptight, narcissistic, numb world of today and realizing that he once felt frozen and less purposeful but now feels the ability to let go of the anger and selfish behavior and can "wave his arms again". It also has a connotation that a...

It also has a connotation that a selfish person was being an ass in his actions of only thinking of himself and was "injured or paralyzed"-thus causing a "handicap" that ascended him to a complex feeling of being owed something. He was trying to be there for him but his friend's selfish anger from the "incident" gave way to more self destruction-the singer realizes this and moves on "my arms waving and I'm saying goodbye" meaning he is simply done trying to be the better man. Because no matter what-some people never learn...
Is it just me who thinks there may be some Pink Floyd references in this? It's not entirely obvious I just saw it in the "comfortably numb" and the "breathe"
I've listened to this song lots and form what I can tell I think its about religion. The lead vocalist of the band went to a religious school, this song is written in the perspective of him talking to someone who has faith. "Look straight in the eyes of the hopeless", they often call those who lack faith as hopless, and as 'refuse2loose' said, ""It's not like I was lost for a purpose, I lost purpose and purposefully froze" he pretty much explains how he has lost is own faith and how easy was to do so, all you have to worry about is breathe, you can't swing if you dont use your arms, its sort of logical in a way, I think it ties in with evolution in the snese that there is no direct purpose from what comes with christianity . "So be good if you think it can save you yeah, be good if you're comfortably numb And i will do my best to breathe with"
the half hour "yoooou" is the best part.
Such a Silverchair vibe in this song, especially during that little breakdown toward the end.
I really wish this song didn't go "Youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu" for a half an hour at the end.
I have to agree. It's such a good rock and roll song at the beginning and at the end, it's a bit cheesy. Still a good song though.
