The Preakness Lyrics

How much is riding on it?
How much is saying I quit?
We've all been here some day
Yours might be a den to sleep in
Mine is just a way of being
I'm not here to pass on a judgment of passion
I'd like just to say to keep up
Keep it up until the day you've got what you want
I see that we are reared in a similar way
Try to figure it out
See your hopes become my hopes
Is there no hope?

Cover art for The Preakness lyrics by Panda Bear

Ok i know i might have said something earlier in a post about deakin's track being my favorite, but after many many listens this piece by panda bear is just breath-taking. its lyrically complicated but not too complicated..idk i cant really explain his genius but his use of piano/synths towards the end just gives me pandachills all over.

"See your hopes become my hopes" aaahh so good the way he can make a seemingly simple sentence and complicate it up with his vocals.

and btw, I hear: "we'll all get there some day" instead of what is posted, what think you?

I think this song seems to be Panda Bear doing some self-reflection by talking to a horse "The Preakness," a horserace course He's asking himself what it means to quit, what you might lose or miss out on, and thinking about what it means to the horse too- "yours [the horse] might be a den to sleep in, mine [panda] is just a way of being" He doesn't want to make a judgement of the horse's [and perhaps his own] passion or dedication, and in the end he says "I'd like just to say, keep it up" till it gets what it's after (in competition or satisfaction or whatever it might be) And then "see your hopes become my hopes" -

Tl;dr he is doing some self-reflecting by seeing aspects of himself in the racehorse
