So soft I tread
Arranging papers
Around the bed
And if she's dreaming deep tonight
I'll lie with her by reading light
A glass of water by her side
And gone are hopes of getting tired
'till you wake up
Count every second
On every clock
It's getting late
Yeah that I know
The hours come
The hours go
And twitching arms
And there you're lying
Your make up on
And girl if you're dreaming deep tonight
I'll lie with you by reading light
A glass of water by your side
And gone are hopes of getting tired
'till you wake up
Count every second
On every clock
It's getting late
Yeah that I know
The hours come
The hours go
'till you wake up
Count every second
On every clock
It's getting late
Yeah that I know
The hours come
The hours come
She sleeps so soft So soft I tread Arranging papers Around the bed And if she's dreaming deep tonight I'll lie with her by reading light A glass of water by her side And gone are hopes of getting tired
I'll call the shots 'till you wake up Count every second On every clock It's getting late Yeah that I know The hours come The hours go
Then twitching lips And twitching arms And there you're lying Your make up on And girl if you're dreaming deep tonight I'll lie with you by reading light A glass of water by your side And gone are hopes of getting tired
I'll call the shots 'till you wake up Count every second On every clock It's getting late Yeah that I know The hours come The hours go

This is directly from an interview with Joseph Mount, the lead singer:
DD: What's the story behind 'She Wants'? Joseph Mount: It's about being up late worrying about things whilst your other half is sleeping soundly and probably having wonderful dreams.
I thinkl the below comments are quite a shallow way of viewing this song. That is only what it appears to be on the surface. The girl is someone in a generally bad place. She's sleeping, dreaming, not in reality. Maybe having troubled times or some kind of mental illness. And he'll "call the shots" till she gets back to the real world
First off - the lyrics (at the time of posting) are completely wrong. Protoboat nailed them in their comment, though.
Reading the verse from those lyrics, it sounds like a fairly straightforward song. A man enters a bedroom where a ladyfriend is already sleeping. He tiptoes into bed, trying not to wake her. But can't fall asleep and so lays next to her with a reading light on, watching the clock.
And that could be it. This could just be a song about a man watching his girlfriend sleep. But...the chorus.
There's an air of urgency and stress ("count every second on every clock"). She isn't sleeping peacfully in bed, she's twitching and jerking, a fitful sleep. It sounds more like he's taking care of her than joining her in bed. Think about the line "I'll call the shots, till you wake up." All of a sudden, the purpose and tone of the song changed for me. She's not sleeping - she's "dreaming" - she's out of it. Maybe a coma. She might be in the hospital where he's her legal guardian ("arranging papers around the bed", "I'll call the shots, till you wake up"). And on this night, when her coma slips into powerful dreaming, it causes her to twitch and jerk, so he crawls into bed next to her to try and comfort her. But there's no way in hell he'd be able to fall asleep now, not with her in that kind of condition ("gone are hopes of getting tired") so he just lays there with the reading light on, counting the seconds, waiting, waiting, waiting ("the hours come, the hours go").
It's titled she wants because the "she" is a little ho or maybe his girlfriend hes annoyed with and in this song she is trying to seduce the singer. She is really drunk and he's down but she just over did it, and he knows it would be wrong, and he's not down for date rape. So he's asserting his authority by rejecting her advances and taking care of her drunk ass, and letting her sleep in his bed, but he's staying up 'by reading light' as in he's not touching her at all, but he has left her water and is just waiting for her to wake up so she can either leave or they can do it fo realize. But for now he's given up hope of 'getting tired' as in having sex for tonight. Just saying.
kinda sounds like he's talking about date rape, but I assume not because who just writes a song about date raping someone
A lot of music is about fucked up things. Just like a lot of books are about fucked up things, and a lot of movies, and so on.
