It's only been a year
But it feels like a lifetime here
How's it been for you?
Does it feel like a lifetime too?
What would you do now in light of it all?
I don't regret it in spite of it all
If I can't convince you then nobody can I guess

I've got too much time on my hands
But you don't understand
Or you won't understand

Would I make it right?
Would it make you less uptight?
What would it achieve?
What should I put up my sleeve?
What did you think would come out of it all?
That we'd quit pretending we doubted it all?
Oh, you don't make me nervous, hell, nobody does these days

I've got too much time on my hands
But you don't understand
Or you won't understand
I've got too much time on my hands
But you don't understand
Or you won't understand

Are you ready, are you ready, are you ready for this?
Should I shake your hand or should I give you a kiss?
Is this everything you always hoped that it would be?
We'll see

I've got too much time on my hands
But you don't understand
Or you won't understand
I've got too much time on my hands
But you don't understand
Or you won't understand

Self explanatory, although we don't know why he has "too much time on my hands"... just a communication breakdown in a relationship.

Justin Young (Vaccines' frontman) said this about "A Lack Of Understanding" "This is one of our favorite songs on the record. I love its simplicity and the way it moves."

I think the too much time on my hands part is because he's over-thinking everything throughout the rest of the song.

i think its a song about an event where he saw his father for the first time in a year, and they haven't been talking either (should i shake your hand or should i give you a kiss), since there are other songs where where he reveals that his relationship with his father isn't great

i think it's his father who tells him he has too much time on his hands; meaning his thinks he hasn't done enough with his life to where he'd be busy; he doesn't approve of his life choices (if i can't convince you then nobody can i guess)

The song is about a guy who had a rellationship that ended about an year ago, but he still likes her and because they just met again he's asking her if she missed him through all this time. Since he likes her, the guy wonders if they would be fine together again, if he would change and try to get away with his defects because even after an year he doesnt feel with anyone the way he used to feel with her. He has much time to figure out what he wants in the future they could have but she wouldn't understand the way he feels, just like in the past.

In my own interpretation I think that this song its about a long distance relationship and he just wanna move on with his life but the girl try to avoid the break up and pretend that they are still together.

It's only been a year But it feels like a lifetime here How's it been for you? Does it feel like a lifetime too?

Maybe he dont see her since a year but they are still a couple.

What would you do now in light of it all? I don't regret it in spite of it all If I can't convince you then nobody can I guess

Maybe he wanna told to her that the relationship is over but she is blind to that.

I've got too much time on my hands But you don't understand Or you won't understand

She dont wanna understand that he just wanna be free and alone to find another person because maybe the relationship goes wrong

    Would I make it right?

Maybe the way to tell her the truth of the end of the relationship

Would it make you less uptight?

In the best possible way , to end in good terms.

What would it achieve? What should I put up my sleeve?

    Finally broke up with her.

What did you think would come out of it all? That we'd quit pretending we doubted it all? Oh you don't make me nervous, hell nobody does these days

He is just tired of pretend to still be with someone who doesnt feel nothing at all. The first two lines make the point of the end and stop faking the relationship.

I've got too much time on my hands But you don't understand Or you won't understand I've got too much time on my hands But you don't understand Or you won't understand

Are you ready, are you ready, are you ready for this? Should I shake your hand or should I give you a kiss? Is this everything you always hoped that it would be? We'll see...

This part is totally in a sarcastic way, The way that he sings that part makes me think that he is just sick of the situation. The second line says: Should I shake your hand or should I give you a kiss? he dont wanna that and just is tired of pretend do that many times. He dont wanna be with her anymore. He just wanna get away of it.

I've got too much time on my hands But you don't understand Or you won't understand I've got too much time on my hands But you don't understand Or you won't understand

Looking for freedom in a bad relationship, I guess. Awesome song.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
