Violin Lyrics

Lately I, I've been heading for a breakdown
Every time I leave my house
Well, it feels just like a shakedown
Between the street sweepers
And the pushers and the lawyers
Who may as well be butchers
Between the small timin' hustlers who all
Seem to feed upon each other

Oh God, why you been
Hanging out in that old violin
While I've been waiting for you
To pull me through

Lately I, every time I try to lie down
While my mind just gets away
I can't even close my eyes now
Between the big fish ambition
And the lovers
Using words as ammunition
Between these wood planks I've been pacing
And this impossible dream that I've been chasing

Oh God, why you been
Hanging out in that old violin
While I've been waiting for you
To pull me through

Oh God
Oh God

Oh God, why you been
Hanging out in that old violin
While I've been waiting for you
To pull me through

For the longest time these lyrics have driven me nuts. We finally got a lyric video so I guess the debate is over.

Lyric Correction

The singer just wants to "talk" to a musician who plays the violin. She keeps telling him that she has to practice the violin. The winter in the city, the business and other songwriter/loves who "use words as ammunition" are bringing him down and he just wants to hang out with someone who understands.

My Opinion

Amos Lee is a part of the super group ROME. He's the R. In love with the violin players in the world, Amos taught me that to just be an observer of a crime without reporting it is a crime itself. And that there should be stricter punishments for people who abuse other people especially in groups. After I got out of the hospital, I was bullied. The inspiring music of ROME helped me get through it, because the burden of proof is very important to Americans. The title is very classical and uplifting. He gave me a body camera to wear at the Bourbon Festival and a back stage all access VIP pass. I love him.

"Wir Götter Der Stadt"

A submission so sweet A silent pact sealed And it was in its shade That i buried myself Trembling like a thief Nothing concealed Not my hideous shame Not the angst i felt We are all weeping 'Cause we can't undo the lie Not with a word Not with the blink of an eye We are all weeping 'Caue we can't break away Not without getting hurt Not without leading astray I'll state my case I won't go down You've lost your face Now you're after mine Are you turning time Over to lies? Over to lies Swear never to frown Upon the things we left Behind Now and again These walls are shaking Now and again These walls are breaking Now and again These walls are breaking us in two We are waving stealthy goodbyes For we know we have failed you You would not ever break the ties Nor the code, now, would you? I'll rest my case I won't go down You've lost your face Now you're turning on mine Are you handing time Over to lies? Over to lies Swear never to drown The things we love They're all gone For we left those things behind Would you embrace What is left to me? Ever embrace what is left to be? Would you embrace What is left of me now?

I think while he is waiting for God to pull him through, God is already there, in the violin, in the music and He is already pulling him through.

I think some of those lyrics are wrong. Here's what I hear:

Lately I, I’ve been heading for a breakdown Every time I leave my house Well it feels just like a shake down Between the street sweepers and the pushes of the lawyers, who may as well be butchered Between the small timing hustlers who all seem to feed upon each other

Oh God, why you been hanging out in that old violin, While I’ve been waiting for you to pull me through

Lately I, every time I try to lie down Well my mind just gets away I can’t even close my eyes now Between the big fish ambition And the lovers using words as ammunition Between the work planks, I’ve been patient In this impossible dream that I’ve been chasing

Oh God. why you been hanging out in that old violin, While I’ve been waiting for you, to pull me through

Oh God, Oh God, Oh God, why you been hanging out in that old violin, While I’ve been waiting for you, to pull me through

I would agree... The lyrics are not correct...

Having said that, what's the violin metaphor??

I hear "Between the street sweepers and the pushers or the lawyers, who may as well be butchers"

As for the violin metaphor, it could be that the narrator sees God only in the beauty of music and art, when he needs God to be present in a more tangible way by relieving the pain and misery the narrator sees all around him.

Agree with the lyric change...

Interesting take on the metaphor, works for me!
