Colors Lyrics

Yesterday I got lost in the circus
Feeling like such a mess
Now I'm down I'm just hanging on the corner
I can't help but reminisce

When you're gone
All the colors fade
When you're gone
No the years they parade
When you're gone
Colors seem to fade

Your mama called, she said
That you're downstairs crying
Feeling like such a mess
And yeah I hear ya
yeah in the background bawling
What happened to your sweet summer time dress

I know it all
We all got our faults
We get locked in our voids
And make mistakes

When you're gone
All the colors fade
When you're gone
No the years they parade
When you're gone
Colors seem to fade

Yesterday I got lost in the circus

When I first heard this song, I just wanted to break down and cry. Amos Lee's voice is just so...I don't even have words to describe it. This is such a great song.

I like the many interpretations voiced so far. I've thought this could be a father singing about missing his daughter because either he is far away, or he split with her mom. If your child is your life and you can't always be near them, "colors seem to fade".

this song is so beautiful... i'm pretty sure that norah jones collaborated on it, and it has that sweet feel she gives her songs. basically about a painful breakup- he hurt her, he misses her, life grows blunt. it describes a situation we've basically all been in, and its really touching.

yeah belloboo she is in this one. ah its so good.. pretty self explanitory i think. his world has no more color without her? i guess, maybe its not quite that obvious.. but i get it all the same.

hey, this is such a good song. i loved it and then i rented Just like Heaven the movie and they play it at the end! i was so excited. here are the real lyrics:

Yesterday I got lost in the circus Felling like such a mess Now I’m down I’m just hanging on the corner I can’t help but reminisce When you’re gone all the colors fade When you’re gone no New Year’s Day parade You’re gone Colors seem to fade

Your mama called she said that you’re down stairs crying Feeling like such a mess Yeah I hear you you’re in the background bawling What happened to your sweet summertime dress

I know we all, we all got our faults We get locked in our vaults and we stay But when you’re gone all the colors fade When you’re gone no New Year’s Day parade You’re gone Colors seem to fade Colors seem to fade Yeah

Love this song. It's so pretty. And I agree, it's about a break-up, which was painful. And yeah, I was happy to hear it in "Just like Heaven" (Great film btw).

I think this song is about a dream not working out. I haven't had this happen to me yet, but this song is one I'll turn to when it does.

Its definitely abt a break up gone wrong. He still feels either hung up on the girl or guilty cos its been years afterwards and he's still not happy ("colors seem to fade"...- everything is dull)

Dont know who made the mistake but he's saying he understands it :

We all got our faults We get locked in our voids And make mistakes

Here he's acknowledging the fact we all need to fill in that certain "void" (lack of attention, lack of love (sexual perhaps or emotional) and thats when we make mistakes just to fill that void.

I love how he uses the imagery of a parade to relate with time ("the years they parade"). He's trying to convey how time has now just gone on and on (or in other words, parading- kinda like mocking him) with nothing really making him happy.

Great song.

i dont think its necessarily about a breakup, but rather about a girl who cant find her place in life....years have past and shes been living in the past reminiscing and the boy is trying to help her through and make her see how much she is worth and how much the world needs her.
