Buy Nothing Day Lyrics

Nothing came today
Nothing will tomorrow
No one took the system
'Cause the world was out of bounds
Action is a strategy
There's just no getting 'round

But I would never lose my head tonight
I would never lose my head tonight

'Cause when it's all coming back
Kick-start the motor
Circle the track
Over and over

Don't plan at all
'Cause making it up is so natural
We don't know for sure,
But this is the law
We'll never come back here tonight

Running out of luck
Running out of money
Running for the subway
Isn't gonna make it, girl
Won't start revolutions
But we're giving it a whirl

But I would never lose my head tonight
I would never lose my head tonight

'Cause when it's all coming back
Kick-start the motor
Circle the track
Over and over

Don't plan at all
'Cause making it up is so natural
We don't know for sure,
But this is the law
We'll never come back here tonight

'Cause when it's all coming back
Kick-start the motor
Circle the track
Over and over
All coming back
Kick-start the motor
Circle the track
I'll never come back here tonight

No I would never lose my head tonight
I would never lose my head tonight

I think this is a great little subversive song. Very pop sounding, but lyrics that seem to point toward anti-commercialism. I love it.

Holy god, how has no one commented on this song? It's probably my favourite track off Rolling Blackouts!

The way I put it together, it sounds like a re-awakening kind of anthem. It's very here-and-now and reminds me of what someone might feel if they 'finally made sense of it all', especially "when it's all coming back, kick-start the motor". And then there's the rationale, "Don't plan at all, cause making it up is so natural" like that's all they had to do the whole time.

The one line I don't think I understand is "I would never lose my head tonight", is it meant to be like saying... I'm together again, and therefore responsible? I really don't know.

I thought the same thing about that line, but I kinda like having it be mysterious like that. This is a perfect pop song, but it's not fluff. The lyrics are somewhat oblique, open to interpretation. And the song structure - the instrumental bridge is a journey in itself, not following the chord structure of the verse/chorus, which is no slouch either (I learned all the chords by ear, couldn't find 'em on the web, and it was tricky!). I totally feel the same way about your assessment of the other lyrics. Awesome tune!
