men on a mission with a plan to take action
loaded weapons with the house surrounded
hard drive downloaded, computer confiscation
monitor my conversations, word for word impersonation

watched by the ever seeing eye, capital imperial
rates ever on the rise, capital imperial
they kill in serial, spread like venereal
watched by the ever seeing eye, capital imperial

under heavy surveillance, tactical interrogation
answer no seven times to the same exact question
the judge admits openly to making an example out of me
as deterrent to the outcome of future revolutionaries

watched by the ever seeing eye, capital imperial
rates ever on the rise, capital imperial
they kill in serial, spread like venereal
watched by the ever seeing eye, capital imperial

RAISE THE FIST FOR SHERMAN AUSTIN!
RAISE THE FIST FOR SHERMAN AUSTIN!
BOUNCE TO DISC FOR SHERMAN AUSTIN!
RAISE THE FIST FOR SHERMAN AUSTIN!

under the shadow of the two missing towers
they legislate to relieve us of our power
use our mourning to assume more authority
war profiteering off our shocked state
we the masses paying these tyrannical taxes
while the gas guzzlin' suburbs spread like an STD

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
