I wonder if you'll notice
If they lock me up and throw away the key
Try to be open minded
You've got a lot to learn in the ways of me
You've always gotta say something
I'm none of your concern but you wont listen at all
You know I'd rather say nothing
And just be proud of myself for tearing down these walls

When you fall I'll be the only one who looks away
When you call I'll be the first to tell you "I can't stay"
It's all over I found a better way to help keep you from me
I'm better off this way
Wo-oh, Wo-oh
I'm better off this way
Wo-oh, Wo-oh

You're gotta keep this comin
Tell it like you know it but you don't know nothing, your call
We can settle this like gentlemen
And meet me at the back to end it all and start again
My whole life's been waiting
Ever since I can remember been anticipating your fall
And God let it be a long one
Can't let go of my grudge till I know you're done

When you fall I'll be the only one who looks away
When you call I'll be the first to tell you "I can't stay"
It's all over I found a better way to help keep you from me
I'm better off this way
Wo-oh, Wo-oh
I'm better off this way
Wo-oh, Wo-oh

You want it, you got it
You've always been such a waste of time
You want it, you got it
A friend of yours is no friend of mine
You want it, you got it
When will you act your age?
You want it, you got it
You're the reason things have to change
Wo-oh, Wo-oh
You're the reason things have to change
Wo-oh, Wo-oh

When you fall I'll be the only one who looks away
When you call I'll be the first to tell you "I can't stay"
It's all over I found a better way to help keep you from me
I'm better off this way
Wo-oh, Wo-oh
I'm better off this way
Wo-oh, Wo-oh

I'm better off this way.

Classic love story true to his western tx roots. One of my favorites as a story, but I think there are alot of songs that are amazing not even listed on this site. I guess I should figure out how to add them, because I have about 8 REK cd's.

This song is def a twin to "Unfair" (a song she has been quoted as saying is about falling in love with someone who is already in a relationship) so it is presumably about the same person. Given the references to buying an apartment and not being able to see her love interest "after tonight," it's most likely that she's moving away and she'll "wait a day to break the bad news" (i.e. notifying him that she's leaving once she's already gone). And, of course, the fact that she sees in him a fellow "idealist" and "dreamer" (terms commonly given to people with the INFP personality on the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)) portends that she'll always be left wondering if they would've been perfect together.

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
