Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.
It's an old, familiar sound
I've got both ears to the ground
But I know nothing will change
Cause I know just how you tick
Make a comment, makes me sick
Same old act, just different day
Hey, I'll wait outside
I'd rather not run into you tonight
It's almost sad for everyone around you
We are living too hard at you
Trying too hard, it's true
If you only knew
It's true
If only you knew
That you're not punk, and I'm telling everyone
Save your breath cause I never was one
And it's killing me
It's killing me
With catalogue numbers to find a thumb tack
Through your bedroom wall
While we are living too hard at you
Playing the part, it's true
If you only knew
It's true
If you only knew what we know
You would understand
That impressions and impressing people don't go hand in hand
It's nothing personal but nothing practical
It's simple method acting
It's simple stuff for you to understand
You're not punk and I'm telling everyone
Save your breath cause the irony is killing me
I've got both ears to the ground
But I know nothing will change
Cause I know just how you tick
Make a comment, makes me sick
Same old act, just different day
Hey, I'll wait outside
I'd rather not run into you tonight
It's almost sad for everyone around you
We are living too hard at you
Trying too hard, it's true
If you only knew
It's true
If only you knew
That you're not punk, and I'm telling everyone
Save your breath cause I never was one
And it's killing me
It's killing me
With catalogue numbers to find a thumb tack
Through your bedroom wall
While we are living too hard at you
Playing the part, it's true
If you only knew
It's true
If you only knew what we know
You would understand
That impressions and impressing people don't go hand in hand
It's nothing personal but nothing practical
It's simple method acting
It's simple stuff for you to understand
You're not punk and I'm telling everyone
Save your breath cause the irony is killing me

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere.
In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.
