Set Your Arms Down

I'm pretty sure that the song stems from the whole desire to end conflict to which no one really sees an end to because it's become a part of character than about the conflict itself.

I think it's probably a form of resistance to the future, but it might have been supposed to be ironic because if one transposes the idea behind the pocket knives and the idea of the arms, it implies distrust.

But I have a feeling that weeddemon was right in some way because neither the singer nor the addressed wants weapons at reach, whatever their clash, it is to be done without the use of any externals. The whole idea of walking through fire is something of a trial and that's an entirely individual concept, one does that to oneself for a greater purpose that transcends ordinary human notions.

I guess this requires more thinking but one might have to think of the singer as either a lover or a mentor whose desire to be with or to teach is greater than any human ego.

Is this song about the Buffy musical? Spike & Buffy are in love, in the musical there's an ensemble song called "Walk through the fire" and they're all prepared for a "Fight". Buffy is in a bad place that season, being raised back from the dead and forgetting her old carefree self..."forgotten sense of me" Then, in the next number, Spike saves Buffy and "sets her arms down."

Okay, I stretch, I stretch! But nobody else is discussing this song.

She MUST be saying "Selassie" at least some of the time.

I never really got a literal meaning from the lyrics of this song, but the song to me has a certain vibe of anticipation. Setting the scene. Something big is about to happen and you're are in the thick of it. It builds and builds and slowly draws you in.

I just found it really sets the mood for the album, its an important track, and probably one of my favourites, but as to the actual meaning of the lyrics themselves, I have no idea.

Out on the back porch you say tonight We bring our pocket our pocket knives- i think its about a couple and the boyfriend/husband wants to argue. the pocket knives are the hurtful words that cut them in a sense.

and in the backyard into the night we walk through fire my love is your flashlight- maybe bring up past issues the fire being the issues and the love is his flashlight to get passed it and move on they want to fight me they want to fight forgotten sense of me- i don't know, man saya, saya

walk through the fire walk 'till it gets light there is no hiding to save your life- all the issues are exposed until they are issues no more. and not hiding any secrets so you can get passed it.
