The Kills – Future Starts Slow Lyrics 11 years ago
Just one really really well thought out track about what love actually is like. Completely unconditional. The whole idea of "what's left of my right mind" just really gets to me, it's like as if they're trying to communicate that this song is written by someone who's not only figured out what they feel but exactly how the world would perceive them, and accepts that, and still goes ahead and sings it. You would think that that's an after thought but it's actually a follow up to the "future starts slow" line, the fact that yes, they know time destroys and heals all things, but they would rather go through the hell of being with their lover than retreat into meaningless expectation. There's much more to say about this song, but I think the surmise might be that it's the most self-less meditation on love. Fuck I love this song.

but I do agree that it sounds like "thump", the first 109 times I heard this song I totally thought it was thump but then my friends kept hearing something else. The album packet has the real lyrics though. I wonder if The Kills are screwing with our ears. Hmmm.... :)

but "thump" only makes sense if the reference is to the broken sail itself. "fuck like a broken sail" implies persistent unfaithfulness; that makes sense with the rest of the entire song.

Warpaint – Set Your Arms Down Lyrics 11 years ago
I'm pretty sure that the song stems from the whole desire to end conflict to which no one really sees an end to because it's become a part of character than about the conflict itself.

I think it's probably a form of resistance to the future, but it might have been supposed to be ironic because if one transposes the idea behind the pocket knives and the idea of the arms, it implies distrust.

But I have a feeling that weeddemon was right in some way because neither the singer nor the addressed wants weapons at reach, whatever their clash, it is to be done without the use of any externals. The whole idea of walking through fire is something of a trial and that's an entirely individual concept, one does that to oneself for a greater purpose that transcends ordinary human notions.

I guess this requires more thinking but one might have to think of the singer as either a lover or a mentor whose desire to be with or to teach is greater than any human ego.
