Not a Lullaby Lyrics
This is not a lullaby,
one that makes you close your eyes
Here's a song that will not try
to hold you in my arms
This is not a true love song,
one that lifts your heart along
Because you know it's being sung
to hold you in my arms
The rain it falls
right outside your door
and you know if you call
I'll be there, I'll be there
whatever you call me for
This is just a quiet tune,
to bring the light into your room
When I'm not right in front of you
to hold you in my arms
when the rain it falls
right outside your door
and you know if you call
I'll be there, I'll be there
whatever you call me for
This is not a lullaby
to keep the clouds out of the sky,
to be sure you will not cry
when I hold you in my arms
when I hold you in my arms
when I hold you in my arms
I'm gonna hold you in my arms
I'm gonna hold you in my arms
I'm gonna hold you in my arms
one that makes you close your eyes
Here's a song that will not try
to hold you in my arms
one that lifts your heart along
Because you know it's being sung
to hold you in my arms
right outside your door
and you know if you call
I'll be there, I'll be there
whatever you call me for
to bring the light into your room
When I'm not right in front of you
to hold you in my arms
right outside your door
and you know if you call
I'll be there, I'll be there
whatever you call me for
to keep the clouds out of the sky,
to be sure you will not cry
when I hold you in my arms
when I hold you in my arms
when I hold you in my arms
I'm gonna hold you in my arms
I'm gonna hold you in my arms
I'm gonna hold you in my arms

“Not A Lullaby” really is a lullaby for a baby or toddler who is resisting being comforted to sleep. When you know that a quiet lullaby will make them sleepy, but if you say you’ll sing a lullaby they protest. So you say “don’t worry, this is not a lullaby”. Baby gaslighting
This is a love song but not in your typical way because it is presented as something that is not so. It reminds me a person that wants to write a love song and tell the other person how they feel but at the same time is terrified of the reaction they might get.
i think it's about being there for someone for THEM, and not to feel needed. helping out, not to make the person want to be held in your arms, but for them to thoroughly feel/be better :)
It might have been written for one of the couples' children (they have a few).
