Yeah, it's about how things should be perfect, and will be when you meet your perfect match, and we shouldn't believe we are in love just because we need to be or think that whoever your dating or whatever is what you deserve. So, she's saying being in love should be like the movies. Love this song!

Hollywood has set such high standards for what love is (and sex). But these are neither realistic or attainable. Because in real life there is this thing called reality!!

I think this is about the girls who tell themselves that real love isn't like a fairytale. It's about the ones who settle for someone who isn't "the one", because they'd prefer that over being alone. She's saying they shouldn't do that because true love IS like the movies, and soulmates exist, and "the one" is out there, somewhere, waiting for you. And she knows first hand, because she was one of those girls before.

Movies set an unrealistic precedent for what love is ... remember movies are a form of entertainment and are not based in reality. So I think the song is actually saying love is not like the movies ... it is actually more than what they show (as most movies only show superficial things). Love is felt inside ... not on the outside (as movies have to portray it for our entertainment). Do we know what love is anymore?? Or does it need to marry up with a movie to fit??

On the other note I think this song is about marriage and not sex, possibly jumping into one that seems right but really isn't. Love is patient, so think about it.
It's about expecting too much out of a guy, it doesn't mean it isn't love but it's a different kind. But through her point of view it wasn't right, and in the song personally I hear a sexual type thing. Hence the lyrics "it didn't fit, it wasn't right, wasn't just the size." I'm assuming through these words shes going through a process of comprehending what feeling she might expirence through sex with someone she believes she's in love with, the world would "spin" and it would be just them. I've only had that expirence with one guy and no others nonetheless, so maybe Katy is insinuating for her, her first time wasn't her fix and it wasn't with the one. Because it should be magical, at least that's how everyone makes it out to be.

It's about engagement and falling in love. If it's not like the movies when he proposes to you and you don't feel anything special, then it's not right. Simple as that. It's really deep and moving. It makes me cry.

I think the lyrics mean that you should not have to second guess with love--it should be a sure thing. And if it's not all out "like the movies", then it's not worth it. You shouldn't settle.

Yes, I agree that it pretty much has to do with a proposal not feeling or being the same as it seems like in the movies. It reminds me of Sex and The City of when Charlotte gets engage with Trey, and it's just so ridicules.
But anyways, this song may obviously go even deeper, like maybe the guy isn't really the right one for her.
