Unholy Thoughts Lyrics

I met the devil last night
at an after show
Bandanna and red, New Era Cap
No more coke, Alice, no more cocaine
You're getting sloppy and someone has
Someone has to say

He was there..
He was there..
He was there..
He was there..

I hear their thoughts now before they speak
I feel their eyes now gouging my soul, accusing me
We on a park bench, bleaching the day
And these thoughts they multiply
And one by one become unholy

He was there..
He was there..
He was there..

He was there..

The mind is powerful
The mind is powerful
But it will not work
It will not work

In reverse
In reverse
In reverse
In reverse

Its hard to interpret for me. "the mind is powerful, but it will not work, in reverse" bit could be something to do with what he said about 'no more drugs' in the first verse's. Maybe the place where the drugs take him is what the 'here is bad' bit is about. But this all seems really stupid and i dont have a clue...

This song is pretty much straight forward. "The mind is powerful, but it will not work, in reverse" pretty much describes the notion that your mind is only as good as it works. If you're an addict or under the influence of drugs (i.e. cocaine, as referenced from the first verse) obviously your thinking and state of mind is not going to reap good results.

Look at the song title. "Unholy thoughts" he's singing about the mental negativity that comes with drug use.

And judging from the first verse, it could also be taken from a different perspective. It could be that a) he's witnessing the behaviours of people doing cocaine and is feeling uncomfortable about being around them or b) he's a coke addict himself and he's being tempted by those around him.

Just my two cents.

I don't think its about drugs in particular but more generally about the lifestyle he found himself living. Maybe he has allowed himself become part of a party and drug filled lifestyle that comes with being a musician and that he is stopping to reflect on where he is in life at the moment and deciding that he needs a change
